thank goodness only once a year!

if your tax situation is simple, then TTax is just right but too expensive, with add-on fees for the state e-filing for example (despite free eFiling available online). TTax tries to get you to upgrade repeatedly to Premier, even if you have just a couple of stock sales. Also refused to upload data from Quicken 2011 to force me to upgrade that product.
I ran into many bugs - for example, try following the step-by-step for adding interest from a Foreign Bank. or try to edit the name of a charity that was uploaded from Quicken (you have to go to the Forms view to manage that).
I'll keep using TTax because it does do the tedious stuff well, although I wish they had an expert mode on the step-by-step for experienced users.
What's great about it: got my taxes filed
What's not so great: had to deal with so many poor design choices by TT

We have been using TurboTax since 2009, and it has improved each year. This year we completed our tax return in record time and accuracy with the good assistance of TurboTax.
What's great about it: Great assistance throughout the entire process

It's great for self filing but they get you for a purchase price in the stores then they get you again and the end of filing.
What's great about it: EASY TO USE AND LEARN TO AN EXTENT
What's not so great: HIDDEN COST
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Painful and Difficult to use

Not intuitive. Difficult to know what was acceptable to deduct. Not easy to go back and revise things. Could not easily add deductions for prior mortgage. Asked a lot of questions about things that didn't pertain to this year's return and did not garner any savings/deductions.
What's not so great: Difficult and confusing
Pros: I moved

Easy To Use

I like using TurboTax. Have been using it for years. Good program. Only negative thing I have to say is the difficulty in manually inputting non-cash charitable contributions. Items that are not in the list must be entered manually and there is no way to do that without creating a separate entry.
What's great about it: Ease of use;
What's not so great: It's Deductible

Updates should be completed each time when you open up the program before you start - each time - not just before filing!
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Updates done just before filing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
