Turbo Tax Can

I generally choose between Turbo Tax (Intuit) and Tax Cut (H & R Block) every year, according to which I can purchase at the most economical price. This year Tax Cut won the economy challenge, but when I attempted to download the software, it did not and could not install properly. (I'm running Windows Vista) I subsequently purchased Turbo Tax, installed it, and completed my taxes, ON TIME, with no hassle. I do have to admit that Turbo Tax has a more user friendly interface and more seamless prompts to guide the end user through the application. For no more hassles, I will be sure to use Turbo Tax exclusively from this point forward.
What's great about it: Aesthetically pleasing, easy guided tour capability
What's not so great: Slightly more expensive

Turbo Tax Deluxe 2013

This software gets the results up in an understandable way, and fairly quickly. However, I found some problems, at least with AZ state tax not using the right forms for some of the credits. I also find that the results can be affected by one's level of experience with software applications.
I would advise anyone using this product, _or_similar_ones_ from other vendors, to double check _everything_ and make sure that what you think you're getting is what you should be getting. None of these products are perfect.
Also, I've used TT products every year but one since 1994.

PS: Prior Prep Method below for me is "All of the above", and I am now retired.
What's great about it: Overall, it is fairly easy to use
What's not so great: Has some problems and can be unpredictable
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Worked very well

I've been using Turbo Tax for many years now and I have found it easy to use. I like the comparisons of prior year taxes for reasonableness. I like efiling the federal return and wish I could efile my state return for free since I could do it on the state website for free. It's a simple thing for Turbo Tax to include because states are not complicated and I think the efiling of it should be free. At this point I print it out and send it.
What's great about it: Asks me questions and I just fill in answers
What's not so great: Can't look at detail of supporting schedules unless print them

I've been using TurboTax for years - almost since my first PC. It just keeps getting easier. If you can read English, you can do this yourself!
What's great about it: Even a tax novice can do this
What's not so great: A more direct link between forms view and the walk through steps would be helpful

Black Box Tax Prep

I generally like TTax - and have used it more than 10 years running. However, it's becoming more complicated and opaque each year. Deductions, for example, are denied with no explanation -- a little too much "just trust us", which is hard when the taxpayer isn't sure if they have actually entered the correct data #or what data determines the result#.
Also, it's maddening that to update a list of previous year 1099s, you have to go "back" six screens after each one, instead of a link to take you back to the original list to update one after the other.

What's great about it: TTax walks you through every possible topic, making errors and omissions less likely.
What's not so great: Program still fails to ask if joint filers BOTH have self-employment expenses for Schedule C -- it just assumes only one

Good tool

I've used TurboTax for several years and have been satisfied with the results. I think I've gotten the maximum refunds and lowest payments I could get.
What's great about it: Thorough, easy to e-file
What's not so great: Some topics confusing, error messages could be more helpful

IT'S SOOOO EASY!!!

The only feature I did not like was, the software did not include options for paying your taxes via Credit Card. The only options were to pay by debit card via bank, or by mail.
Luckily, I knew what site to refer to, to pay my state taxes by credit card.
Otherwise, TurboTax is a great tool to use!!
What's great about it: TurboTax does all of the thinking for me!
What's not so great: Does not provide the option to pay your taxes via credit card.
