Outliers will be left wanting

Turbo Tax has always been helpful with their easy guides, pop-up explanations, and wizards that can auto-fill your forms in the background. However, there are certain situations that cannot be over-ridden. For example, the system has never accounted for students earning a second baccalaureate, which will throw errors with its education deduction section in the software. As another example, if a W-2 shows multiple local state/city taxes, the software will auto-fill the state tax section even if the form is not necessary for local school district taxes. There's no "delete" button and no way to remove these entries, so the local state/city will audit your paperwork every year since you end up submitting incorrect forms that MUST be included if you e-file through the TurboTax software (there's no way to delete or tell the software not to include the erroneous paperwork). Even starting from a clean slate with no previous imports will still create these errors. Also, the software will say that there are no errors during the designated error checking step, but will warn you of an error after you have paid to submit via e-file; at this point, there's nothing that can be done as the only possible option is to digitally sign the paperwork and hit "submit" (or to eat the processing payment and quit out of the software to manually file the paperwork).
I assume that I will be audited again by my state for the wrong two forms that TurboTax decided to send on my behalf. The "low risk of audit" and the "guarantee" mean very little when this is the third year that the software has announced that it has "caught an error" after the error-checking process.
What's great about it: Easy guides to follow
What's not so great: Good luck if you don't fit the mold

Another great year of Turbo Tax handling anything.

I have been using TT for over 10 years, and it keeps getting better. This year I had not taken all of my IRS MRD and TT handled it with no problem.
I could not do my taxes on my own without TT.
What's great about it: Installes easy, updates fast and no hassle.
What's not so great: None.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easy, but updates important

I would give TurboTax 5 stars if it hadn't become hung up 2 years in a row by needing updates for parts of my return. This year, it was the state sales tax deduction section. I had to Google my question to find that I needed to download updates through the "Online" menu tab. It would be nice if TurboTax recommended doing this within the program whenever it runs into a section it doesn't have the information to complete. Even better, it should recommend this step before you even start your return. Last year, there was a similar section (possibly also the sales tax section). Unfortunately, the update wouldn't load properly onto my home Mac, so I had to start my return over again on my work PC. This cost me a few hours.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: doesn't automatically update

Huge waste of money this year.

This program is a wreck this year. After finishing my taxes it wouldn't allow me to e-file. It said there was an update that was needed. After downloading and installing the updates several times I gave up on e-filing. Then the program wouldn't print. Constant communications errors with the printer. I finally was able to save a PDF and take it to another computer to print it out. I have been a customer since the early 1990's. But will never buy from you again.
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: e-file doesn't work

Great Time Saver

I'm not sure if the bug in the sales tax deduction section was fixed by the update that was performed just before the error check, but I seem to remember that in previous years, TurboTax looked for updates as soon as the disk booted up, so the entire process used the most up to date software. Either you changed this feature, or something went wrong when I booted up the disk since no software upgrades were downloaded until I'd almost finished my return.
What's great about it: Quick and Accurate
What's not so great: Bug in Sales Tax Deduction Section

Glad it it Done!

It is helpful that incomes/deductions reviews all, even though I don't use many at this time. It helps me feel like I am staying in touch and aware of tax reducing options in the future. I dread doing my deductions--even with Turbo Tax. But, again, staying aware of what is on the forms.
What's great about it: Reviews things I might not in a tax booklet. Pleased with updated deductible choices.

The vote is still out

This went pretty quickly. Seems like a lot of the extraneous questions that only apply to the 7% have been removed, YEAH!!! I was unable to upload my information from my pdf for 2012 so this meant I had to enter a lot of data over again BOOO! I was able to get my user id info but it said I had no return stored. I didn't like this.
What's great about it: This year seemed to go faster than usual, focusing on the areas I needed
What's not so great: Still confused about storing my tax return online to access next year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
