My Experience
on April 15, 2014

In the past I have had no problem with Turbo Tax. This year was not the same experinece. First it would not access my info from last year which surprised me but was not a major problem to do it myself.
Second, I tried to efile 5 times but got a message that I needed to upgrade which I did several times. I then printed out my return to mail but decided to try one more time after downloading from the site again, changing 1 pin number for efile and miraculously it finally went through.
This year I waited until the last day to file thinking there would be no problem. That I won"t do again as it was too hard on the nerves.
Thankfully the program finally came through.
What's great about it: All calculations are doing quickly
What's not so great: Tried 5 times to Efile and finally it went through.

Clicking Fun
on April 15, 2014

This is my 4th year using Turbo Tax! Turbo Tax has made filing taxes fun by moving the mouse, clicking the keyboard's letters and numbers to answer the easy questions, and finally clicking efile:). I have more free time and less worries from using Turbo Tax compared to my past of taking weeks to read publications I didn't understand and entering numbers on IRS forms (while praying I was doing everything right), then waiting for a return or a notice of something I did wrong. I feel confident Turbo Tax knows tax laws, because I can click the easy to understand explanations, and I can click links to read IRS publications. My sister, adult kids, and my friends now click Turbo Tax because they noticed my clicking enjoyment.
What's great about it: Easy to use, simple questions, links to IRS, explanations for each item listed, efiling, online help, and more!
What's not so great: I had to figure out where to put my union dues expense, separate from my husband's expenses.

Last minute rush

I count on TurboTax each year since 2008. A hitch this year: TT jumped ahead of itself ... items that require updates from the prior year weren't displayed to me until the Review.... telling me I had failed to provide answers .... that I hadn't been asked for.
All-in-all, works great because I'm used to it, but a new user might not know how to cope with some quirks. The fee for processing the payment to states is a bit outlandish!
What's great about it: Handled a lot of material, especially K-1s from MLPs.
What's not so great: It jumped ahead of itself a few times. Tries to force me to business depreciation when I report business miles.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Works Well Unless Your Life is Complicated

I live in Georgia, my husband lives in Tennessee. This was an impossible idea for Turbo Tax to fathom. I had to file Married Jointly for my Federal taxes, then file Married Separately for my "fake" Federal taxes so I could file Separately for my Georgia taxes. Tennessee does not require an income tax; however, Turbo Tax insisted I pay for the Georgia state, which should have been free. I assume this is because I had to create 4 tax returns (2 federal and 2 state, both Georgia). This was time consuming and aggravating, especially since Turbo Tax could not figure out if we were Georgia residents or Tennessee residents. I understand that my circumstance is extremely rare, so I gave this software a 3 as I had no other issues.
What's great about it: Easy to follow
What's not so great: Easily gets confused with residents in 2 states

It was a bit stressful when it hung up when attempting to send the e file.
What's great about it: less expensive than going to a tax preparer; fairly easy to manage
What's not so great: E-file hung up 3 times when trying to submit the form. Had to reboot the computer, check for updates the 4th time +good

I've been using TurboTax annually for more than a decade and consistently find it to be remarkably thorough and easy to use. Makes filing taxes much less painful than in the pre-software era.
What's great about it: Ease of use / Q&A guidance format
What's not so great: None
