As always, Turbo Tax was easy, quick, and correct.
What's great about it: Even the step by step is fast
What's not so great: Extra cost to E-file state.

Turbo Tax is

Turbo tax is the best on line way to do your taxes. They cover all the questions that usually pop up at an audit and the fact that they will support you if you have to go an audit gives you a very secure feeling. I think I like the fact that I can go back and look at my returns for several years and they are right there on my computer. The fact that each year your information is imported into your next year's taxes saves you a great deal of time and helps you "jog your memory" about things you may have forgotten that you needed to add to or delete from your current tax form. Turbo Tax has been a very time saving, useful tool for me to use now since 2006. As a former IRS worker, I would recommend this to my friends and family. Try it and I am sure you will like it also.
What's great about it: Quick and Efficient
What's not so great: Need to expand information on moving and sale of home topics.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

The interview question re: "do you have any non-deductible IRA contributions (i.e. basis) is misleading because it says "this is not common, because most people do not track basis. THIS IS NOT TRUE, unless you dont have or care about an IRA. People have been tracking Form 8606 for years with Basis equal about $80.000 plus. The comment/question should simply say "do you have non deductible IRA contributions on Form 8606 that are a non-taxable basis." I missed it once, then went back to fix when i noticed my F8606 basis was zero. This is very IMPORTANT.
Also, for my son (college student with investment income), the kiddie tax did not seem to come up very clearly or I had to keep looking until it asked for my Taxable income.for F8615.
Also, Form 1116 usually does not add up Foreign Tax credits from multiply mutual funds. I noticed a technical note that multiple inputs must be entered in highest to lowest amounts, or total tax credits wont add up, unless you play or prod TurboTax (happens every year)
It would be nice to have a all 1099-DIV's in a spreadsheet for easy checking that all are entered correctly, or add Box 1b to the Dividend display (i.e. columns for for Box 1a, 1b, 2a, 6) like a table/summary.. Also entering multiple 1099-DIVs in a spread sheet format would be quicker easier to read/verify, instead of going in/out of each 1099-DIV which is tedious.
Comments should be hyperlinked, e..g. 1) F1116, line 3 = see STMT (??). 2) missing deduction comment related to what ? => e.g. self employed health insurance deduction F1040, line 29 ( I guessed from last year's comment")
Overall, Turbo Tax is good, quite complex, and the user I/F is becoming more "barebones" so its getting harder to use.. Believe it used to be more user friendly before..
Very respectfully .
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Tax Money Magic

Very useful compared to manual calculations, Still takes a lot of time. Would it be possible to print on both sides of final return? Would save paper and stamps. Only e-filed federal return. Why not make state return free too. Will continue to use Turbo Tax every year.
What's great about it: Detailed & Complete Process
What's not so great: Tax Code is fantastically complicated.

Glitchier this Year

Completed and checked, but how did I get to be student? Fix that, all good, pass check. Look at something else, Check again, three bad areas. Fix them, check again, OK. Save the file Enter again, run the check, Another problem. Now there's an x in a box about my husband. How did that get there? Now it says I'm estimating 2014 payments?
Now I"m not sure I trust any part of the process. This used to work smoothly. I'd rather go back to mailing the package than have to fight with the error check!
What's great about it: Gets the job done, eventually, if you fight it long enough
What's not so great: Kept putting in wrong stuff.

Easy - as usual

Another "easy beezy" return. Great job (again). I was surprised that the Turbo Tax software didn't apparently check for updates when I first loaded it or when I restarted Turbo Tax after a break. If it was checking, it would have been good to put up a popup screen letting me know it was checking for updates. The only time it appeared to check for updates was when I downloaded my State return.
What's great about it: Covers about everything I could think of - and some I didn't
What's not so great: Didn't check for updates until I downloaded my State return

I have been using Turbo tax since 2010 and have always been greatful for the program. I can't think of a cheaper, easier way of doing taxes every year. Turbo Tax seems to be getting better and better with age, like fine wine.
Great job everyone there and looking forward to using you next year.
What's great about it: Seem easier every year
What's not so great: None right now
