Easy to use - import feature is excellent
on April 15, 2014

Import feature is what drives this product ---- working with all of the national financial institutions is a big plus - portable
What's great about it: simple to use
What's not so great: cost seems to be steady / higher than competitors

TurboTax is Turborific!
on April 15, 2014

It is very comforting to have the confidence that my federal and state income tax filings are complete, accurate, and on time. The step-by-step guide is easy to follow and the instructions are clear. I'm completely satisfied, and I urge everyone to make the purchase. It's a worthy investment in convenience and peace of mind.
What's great about it: Convenience, accuracy, step-by-step prompts, reasonable price.
What's not so great: Takes time, but it is well spent.

Best individual tax filing software out there.
What's great about it: Easy to follow, provides help with tough filing requirements, consistant product year over year.
What's not so great: Not all updates come with software, minor problems with royalty income and 1099-B
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Estate - Deceased final Tax Return
on April 15, 2014
Posted by: Aleksandra
TurboTax pulled the 2012 AGI from the 2012 data and entered the value into the 2013 return. The return was completed, fully verified by TurboTax and everything checked out without any warnings, errors or omissions. However, the Federal IRS rejected the filing, claiming that the Adjusted Gross Income for 2012 did not match their records. I rechecked the 2012 submitted taxes and the amount entered (and provided by TurboTax from past tax records) was in fact correct. I called the 800# of the IRS for a new filing PIN. The recorded voice said to enter $0 instead of the actual amount that was filed last year. I resubmitted the form with $0 instead of the actual AGI from 2012. It remains to be seen whether this will also be rejected by the IRS.
The overall user experience of this software was very good through the Q&A process. The forms are all filled out and available for printing at the time of submission. I would prefer to be able to pull up past forms to re-print easily from the available menu options. If it's there, I could not find it. Instead, I went to my folder on my C: drive and double-clicked the 2012 form in order to view it in TurboTax. The search tool did not find the past filing for 2012. Also, this version of TurboTax does not recognize nor allow me to view 2011 or 2010, both of which are in the same folder as the 2012 and 2013 files.
What's great about it: Flexible to allow detailed guidance or self-entries
What's not so great: IRS rejected the first submission due to 2012 AGI not matching what they expected; it DID match what was actually filed.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

automatic W2 download problem, otherwise great
on April 15, 2014

somehow ended up with 2 W2 for my employer as I was not able to electronically download and filled out manually.
Situation was corrected at end, after state review, could have perhaps been flagged as w2 info was put in.

suggest a front end check boxes for user to indicate what documents they have, get them entered. then drive the questions from their content. then circle through the other questions.
What's great about it: guided approach reduced the abilbty to miss sections
What's not so great: lots of questions that may not apply sometimes mixed with very likley
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Nice Software

I have used Turbo tax as long as I have filed my own taxes and it is very easy to use. The only issue I have is with the Its Deductible. If I have an item that is not an the list, there is no "other" button to choose. I then have to enter a gibberish word the software does not recognize in order to enter my own name for an item. Very time consuming with multiple charitable deductions!!!!! An "other" button would REALLY be useful!!
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Hard finding items on Its Deductible
