Another one done

The best feature of TurboTax is that it provides a thorough step by step process that was easy to navigate. Whenever I had a question, explanation resources were easily available by clicking on the link.
The only drawback this time was that I was not able to file electronically even though no errors were detected and all updates to the application were downloaded.
What's great about it: Easy and straight forward to use

Had numerous software problems

Program said to update before it would efile. So I did that but when I tried to open program received Error Code: 213803889079.
Finally I downloaded update again and executed it. The Program finally opened and was able to efile.
Very frustrating because I updated and then software wouldn't open.
All this on April 15th.

Room for Improvement

The only real frustration was the HSA workflow. I have been using TurboTax for at least 10 years, so not my first TurboTax rodeo. Thinking I have done a good job of following the workflow, we checked our return before filing and found that somehow TurboTax thought the HSA contribution was employer paid, but my spouse made the entire contribution. Her company did not contribute anything, yet TurboTax indicated that it was an overage and charged extra tax.
Good news that we found this problem and corrected it before filing. The bad news was that we discovered we did not find this error last year and overpaid our taxes, and now have to file an amended return to recover the overpayment. HUGE disruption in our busy lives.
So, as you can tell, we are disappointed that the HSA workflow was not as user friendly as it should have been.

PREVIOUS YEAR TRANSFERE OF S.S. BENEFITS TO THE STATE RETURN WAS INCORRECT AS WAS THIS FILING YEAR ALSO. I CONTACTED THE STATE DEPT. OF REVENUE FOR MY STATE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE INFORMATION TRANSFERED FROM THE FED RETURN WAS NOT CORRECT. WE LIVE IN STATE THAT DOES NOT TAX S.S. BENEFITS OR PENSION BENEFITS AND FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS THE TURBO TAX HAS TRANSFERED A INCORRECT AMOUNT TO THE STATE RETURN FOR SS. BENEFITS.. THE STATE DEPT. OF REVENUE HAS TOLD ME TO FILE A AMENDED RETURN FOR LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR I CORRECTED THE AMOUNT ON THE STATE RETURN BEFORE FILING.
What's great about it: EASY TO USE AND GOOD DETAIL.
What's not so great: INCORRECT AMOUNTS TRANSFERED TO STATE RETURN FOR S.S BENEFITS THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR THIS HAPPENED.

Aside from the issues downloading updates, the '13 version was seamless!
What's great about it: Smoother transitions between steps
What's not so great: The updates acted up for awhile. Had to restart my laptop a few times

Been using Turbo Tax since 2009 and the product has steadily improved. Overall a good experience but need better navigational tools to go back and review and also click to calculation spreadsheets and forms throughout process.
What's great about it: Ability to import W2 and 1099s; easy AMT Calc
What's not so great: Need better navigation to go back an review without restarting sections
Pros: I bought or sold investments

(1) had to type in duplicate table of repairs & maint for both my and my wife's separate home offices; covering whole home - redundant keystrokes.
(2) real estate taxes & insurance did not carry over in home office expenses from earlier in form.
(3) total income (working in home office) did not carry over from W2 entries.
What's great about it: concise. thorough.
What's not so great: (1) had to type in duplicate table of repairs & maint for both my and my wife's separate home offices
