I really love the imports from previous year form, and itsDeductable site... save a lot of time reentering. The review and maximizing deduction features are great. Every year still leaves me with sour taste when I have to pay to e-file to state.. makes no sense.
What's great about it: ease of use, and the audit/review of data - Excellent
What's not so great: as always, the expense of e-filing state - save state money, and have to pay for it?

Turbo Tax is a 10 on a 1 - 10

Overall Turbo Tax is an excellent product. I would not consider using any other Tax Preparation or Filing package. A bargain at all pricing levels.
What's great about it: Very easy to use. Used for almost 10 years.
What's not so great: none
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have used TurboTax for the past 18 years,, and it has improved greatly over that period of time. The process is easy to follow, and the results are well laid out as you go along. The frequent updates however are a pain. I did have two problems, one, while I was ordering Audit Defense I could not close the ordering process so I could complete my taxes, and the second was after I had done an update and attempted to file, the program continued to tell me there were more updates available. It was not rectified until I restarted the program, then TurboTax apparently knew the update was done and I could file. But overall it worked well, barring the few little glitches.
What's great about it: Easy to follow, quick computation, peace of mind with all of the verifications
What's not so great: frequent updates, if missing the PIN number from the last year a pain to straighten out

Bought the Deluxe version to make it easier to use schedule C. Hello!! had to use FORMS to enter data for Schedule C. I can do it better with the basic version. I wasted so much time because TTx enters some information in the incorrect places like car expenses related to job! it should be entered on Schedule C for sole proprietor not on form 1040 but nooooo, your program puts it in BOTH places so it gets deducted twice. BAD MOVE! And the program won't let you edit it out of the 1040 form so it only appears on the schedule C. Drove me CRAZY!! The last thing I need at tax time!

THe Extra $500 Refund

I installed a new central AC in Sept 2013, and my contractor told me the federal rebates ended in 2012. When doing my taxes, TurboTax told me the rebates went through 2013, so I filed for the credits (in the amount of $500.
So I got a windfall or TurboTax will be helping me clean up the mess. I'm betting on the windfall.

What's great about it: Fast, nice flow of data entry, uses last years data
What's not so great: Sometimes explanations are somewhat cryptic

I've tried the competition and I've come back to TurboTax. It is superior in dealing with the very unusual tax prep required of clergy (self-employment taxes, housing, unused housing, etc). It also handles my wife's part time business well. Unless they increase the price, I'll go right back to it next year.
What's great about it: Handles Clergy Well
What's not so great: Too Expensive
