I did not do last years taxes , but this program will not lest me go back just forward.
What's great about it: double check
What's not so great: can not do last years

Close to perfection

I initially bought TurboTax when it out did the retail competitors numbers where a friend worked. Since then I have let my friend try using the companys software. But he failed again :-)
My only suggestion is: I like the TurboTax summary pages showing the previous return values, but I would love to be able to select and view the forms in the same way the current years forms are selectable.
What's great about it: Has out done my "Tax expert" friend two years in a row
What's not so great: More historical capability

Saves Time!

Overall, I appreciate how previous year's data is downloaded into the new year's 1040. That is a real time saver. It's fairly thorough. It also helps you figure out whether you should find all your receipts for itemized deductions, (e.g. when I got to the medical expenses section - it gave me the amount I needed to have in expenses to actually go through the trouble of finding all my receipts).
However, I don't like that I'm not able to access all the documents I need through the step-by-step method. I had to find them through the "forms" section of the program. This could be a hassle!
Nevertheless, I appreciate the program despite the bit of trouble I had in finding the forms I needed. (I simply had to look back at previous year's tax return)
What's great about it: downloads previous year's info so saves you from a lot of typing.
What's not so great: couldn't get into every form I needed to via the "step-by-step" way

I highly recommend Turbo Tax to those who, like me, are savvy enough not to need an tax preparer, and don't want to pay one. Plus it helps you to learn what's what. Never do it by hand when you can use Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: mostly very easy, friendly and straight forward
What's not so great: education expenses help didn't always jive w/ publ 970 well enough to be sure what is required vs other expenses

Pretty Good

Overall, it's pretty good. I've used Turbo Tax before and this year it seemed more "complicated" and it took longer than years past, especially when it came to some state questions.
What's great about it: Led me through everything...income and all my possible expenses.
What's not so great: Part of my state return included a car allowance and it did NOT work properly.

Additional Fees at the end

I've used Turbotax consistently for more than 10 years. I even tried a few of the competitions during the time only to give up and purchase Turbotax anyway. While it deserve it's rating as the number one software for it's ease of use I will have to add that the hidden fees at the end have become annoying. Audit Defense and Second E-file charge??? Wish they just add or bundle these fees to the overall cost to the software. Really feel that it now deserves a 3.5 star rating but you can't add 1/2 stars to the review.
What's great about it: Great software easy to use.
What's not so great: Additional Fees at the end
