One big problem that I couldn't find in community help center. My company's mailing address state is different than the state I live in. Their state id on the w-2 is the state I work in. There was no way around this in order to transmit on the final day to be filed. I changed it to my state and the zip for the local company, knowing it will pop up as an error. Suggestion: using the other box to denote a different mailing address than where you work.
What's great about it: easy
What's not so great: wouldn't transmit because.....
Pros: I moved

Could Improve

Need to be able to see where numbers came from. i.e some numbers plugged into the program and to the state forms - I couldn't figure out where they came from. Need to be able to, for example right click or menu button, see where they originated - i.e. from line xyz or from calculations etc
What's great about it: Ease of use, interview process
What's not so great: After calculation of some numbers and transfers into state could not figure out where numbers came from

Taxes made easy.

To whom it may concern: First off I think that the federal and state governments of the United States should laud and reward TurboTax and other competing software manufacturers for making filing tax returns that much easier and convenient. Compared to historical paper forms, before the advent of these programs, it’s been a virtual “nightmare” to file taxes and the difference has been like “night and day”. Because, ultimately, the more people who submit accurate and timely tax returns the more the government coffers are replenished, allowing it to run smoothly, if not effectively. So it's in the United States government's self-interest to have these programs. Now that I’ve had a chance to express my views I will specifically rate TurboTax. I have used TurboTax to self-prepare my taxes ever since it came out and I've never used any other tax filing software program. I find there is no compelling reason to try other competing tax filing software programs because I've never had any issues with doing my taxes using TurboTax. In fact before the advent of TurboTax I could only use the paper forms. This process required going to the library, if the federal government didn't send one to me, and pick up all the documents and paperwork necessary to file my returns. Filing state taxes was even worse. I always delayed filing taxes because the experience was so stressful and was short of having an oral root canal performed. Even when I knew every year I would get a refund the act of filing increased my blood pressure several dozen points. That’s how unpleasant tax filing was before TurboTax. Now, the biggest challenge for me is NOT with TurboTax but remembering to retain and neatly organize and gather all the necessary documents to file a return. TurboTax couldn’t make filing a tax return any easier, short of them doing it for me. The program has continually improved through the years and the features I appreciate are the following: 1) Intuitive pre-population and importation of previous year’s tax filing information. This makes filling out the “perfunctory” information, such as name, address, and filing status, already done. 2) Step-by-step guidance. Doing things in a logical, coherent manner, one topic and sub-topic at a time, makes things go faster and easier and minimizes mistakes and/or omissions. 3) Convenience and user-friendly. The ability to save the filing at any point and return and continue at a later time is one of the best features of this software. 4) Last but not least: Up-to-the-minute updates to tax law. As a person filing from the State of Minnesota this year that point was exemplified when the state legislature passed a law in late March 2014, to take effect immediately, to impact the tax filing season of 2013. TurboTax incorporated those last-minute tax law changes simply with an update to their software package via an on-line update. These are the main reasons why I only use TurboTax and why filing taxes is much more tolerable, if not pleasant, especially if one has a nice return expected. Thanks TurboTax for producing an excellent product and continuing to improve it. Keep up the great work! Sincerely, Paul
What's great about it: Step-by-step guidance and up-to-the-minute updates to tax laws.

Federal pensions are not taxable in NC. However, if you check off federal pension on the 1099-R form, it gets taxed. One must "cheat" by checking off Bailey or Faulkenbury. The options need to be clearer or the federal pension checkoff should result in a NC subtraction.
What's great about it: I really like the way that basic information is scooped up into the State return
What's not so great: Making some data fit into State requirements can be ?taxing.
