this will be the last year I use turbo tax after many years, last years program cost me $1600.00 dollars because of this.
Now this year I pay for state e-file and it will not send because the updates will not work on state
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: updates do not update and will not let me e-file

Won't Do The MATH!

Doing my 83 year old mothers taxes, TurboTax would not add up the appropriate lines to fill in Line 15 on 1040A. ???
I reentered her entire tax return to make sure I didn't cause an error by jumping back and forth in the program. No change,. Wouldn't let me e-file. Got stuck in" repair" loop. Had to Print and mail. Ooops.
What's great about it: Never had any issues in 20 years as a Customer.
What's not so great: Would not add up lines in form 1040A

Turbo Tax 25th year

1. In many situations, when I go back to add something, I have to go through the whole section again and the answers I have previously given have been deleted..
2. The "print" section has poor or seemingly redundant flow.
3. When I decide to apply ALL my refunds to next year, the software does not update the $$ figure when I make a change upstream and I have to then go back in and enter the number again.
4. The "add supporting details" dialog box needs to be right click accessible.
5. I wanted to file for a child who had not needed to file for two years, but could not go back to 2011 to get the personal information.
What's great about it: It works!
What's not so great: Filling in a blank more than once

Better than doing it by hand....

TurboTax is OK, but for the amount of time they've been doing it, I would expect is to be a little clearer about ALL entries. While many are described in detail, others leave the user wondering.
What's great about it: The ability to make changes instantly
What's not so great: Some fields/entries poorly described
Pros: I bought or sold investments

K1 Misery

Usually I have few problems, but a few more challenging things occurred this year.
1. Sale of MLP reported from brokerage and imported from firm though 1099, but cost basis was correction required from final K1. TurboTax was not too helpful on how to handle this. As far a I know the imported entry from 1099 must be deleted and the entire sale handled from K1 in order to prevent duplication of the sale. That needs to be clarified by TurboTax instructions.
2. Over payment of Roth IRA occurred during the year. I think typically the 1099R for this activity is not issued until the following year. There should be some instruction for creating a substitute 1099 to handle this situation. I doubt it is that uncommon.
All and all a good product, and couldn't imagine doing my taxes without it. K1 handling could be improved to import ALL TXF fields. This would be a huge help.
What's great about it: Most topics covered well
What's not so great: K1 Statements and partnership sales difficult.

I have used Turbo Tax for years. It gets better every year. You do have to do some exploring on deductions and the rules.
What's great about it: Step by step process.
What's not so great: Cannot copy and/or print some pages. Have to really search for rules.

!. One has to click around where an entry box should be to have it activate the cursor - thereby knowing you have found the entry box.
2. When reviewing my 2013 1040, it has an entry as to if deductions were itemized for 2012. they were but that box on the 2013 was not checked. Having done so, the next line precluded any further processing of that issue. So, I guess TT knew it was pointless to ask the question about 2012 because it had no bearing on the 2013 return. It could have been a bit more explicit in the area.
What's great about it: Everything but below con
What's not so great: Some of the entry boxes are so faint they are hard to see.
