Great except K-1
on April 15, 2014

Excellent software except for inadequate K-1 form support. Cannot complete K-1 adequately--Turbo does not comport with my K-1 return or the federal instrudtions. Has to wing it in a few places. I realize these investment vehicles are created for people rich enough to hire professional tax accountants and lawyers, but nevertheless, Turbo should adequately support the form or suggest in the software why it cannot.
What's great about it: Most easy to understand and complete
What's not so great: Cannot complete K-1 adequately--Turbo does not comport with my K-1 return or the federal instrudtions.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good Program!

Screen size is awkward. I have to drag the side bar down to get to the continue button. The scroll on the mouse does not work on the screen. Also, it is clumsy when tracing amounts form the forms back to the source. That step seemed easier on prior versions. But, overall a good program! I wish the state efile was included.....

What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Hard to trace back numbers on forms

Turbo Tax Saves Me Time, Worry and Money
on April 15, 2014

I have talked one brother, a nephew and niece into using Turbo Tax. They were great procrastinators until they discovered the ease of Turbo Tax. Now they have no excuse for delaying tactics. Paying taxes is no fun but I have found that the filling out of the forms correctly so you pay only what you owe and not one cent more to be the value of Turbo Tax. I've been doing this for almost 10 years and have had no problems.
What's great about it: Questions to walk me through my taxes which helps me to see what I wouldn't have seen.
What's not so great: It's taxes! Always a big con even with lots of good help from Turbo Tax

My first year doing my own taxes. TurboTax walked me through everything. I was going to then take my taxes for a review by a tax professional but after doing the taxes with this software felt 100% confident I had everything done correctly. Awesome!
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: Didn't have any
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Even my brother who works for the IRS uses Turbo Tax to do his personal taxes so it must be good.
What's great about it: Walks you through Everything and Double Checks It.
What's not so great: A couple of New items came up this year that I couldnt get answers for. Good thing I cleared them up via my brother

Coverdell Nightmare

I really like TurboTax but this year I am dejected after struggling with new situations. The guidance through the confusion of these topics was really not well done and ended in trial and error. I have no idea if we got it right. Confused on whether to include the 1099-T and -Q in the parents return or the dependent is the first miss, how you answer the questions in each return, and the worse guidance in the software which has a huge difference in whether or not a distribution is taxed. I know these distributions are tax free to the extent the expenses are qualified but I got taxed without explanation. It seems to hinge on the question whether the distribution is returning a contribution, I still haven't figured this out. Help was not useful and many of the community questions were not answered or not useful. This needs improved and fixed!
What's great about it: Takes the burden off for completing worksheets
What's not so great: ESA, scholarship and College expense guidance in concert with dependant earned income.
