2013 Taxes

My only complaint with TurboTax is with entering the 1099-PATR. I own private property and have my loan through a farm credit. When I enter my 1099-PATR information, TurboTax asks me all sorts of questions that do not apply to private, non-farming property. I just wish there were a question at the beginning of the section that asked if it were private or farming property so these questions that do not apply could be skipped. It even asks me to name the farm I do not have.
What's great about it: Helpful, quick easy and reliable.
What's not so great: Can't skip the farming questions associated with a 1099-PATR

Unhappy with 2013 Turbo

Failed to come up with 2012 results for rental property depreciation history.
Accessing program from thumbnail problematical--always required 5-10 attempts, sometimes with message that there was no "associated program" for opening program.
Requires repetition in entering personal information --names, addresses, soc. sec. # ,etc, --esp. in tax e-filing and payments process. Once entered in original personal info section, these should be remembered for all later uses and purposes.
I had difficulty going back and forth in making changes or updates, several times having to exit and restart the program in order to continue.
I thought this year's edition generally operated much slower than previous years.
What's great about it: Still worthwhile
What's not so great: Too slow and redundant. Difficult to nogiatate when skipping

Continues to Reduce Taxes

Have used TurboTax since 2009 and continue to find it easy to use and have brought the entire extended family over to TurboTax. The way it walks you through the Federal and State forms saves time. Prior to finding TurboTax I paid hundreds of dollars for a tax professional to prepare my taxes only to find he was using a professional tool much like TurboTax. Before I switched I ran my tax forms on TurboTax to compare with the professional support, TurboTax actually found more deductions. If I was to find an issue for improvement i would like to see support for addressing volunteer work and how to deduct mileage and other expenses. Highly recommend this product.
What's great about it: Have used TurboTax since 2009 and continue to find it easy to us. The review features are excellent
What's not so great: Nothing major but would like help to address volunteer work

State return process always seems to be more of a mystery in the step by step, but end results seems to come out fine

If you have to do your income taxes...do them with Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Walks you through each item and allows you to review.
What's not so great: Does not explain why items from the previous year are not available this year.

Painless Integration of Rules and Math

This is the best version of TurboTax yet. The only odd thing is that one of the special forms did not automatically come up for entry this year, even though some information was populated in it. Nevertheless, I was able to easily find it and complete it in minimum time. This software is fast, accurate, well-integrated, and takes most of the headache out of filing taxes. Thank you, TurboTax!
What's great about it: Single entry point with information disbursed to appropriate areas
What's not so great: Specialty forms from past year did not show up for input for this year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used TT for about two decades now, and it's continuously improved. It is quite convenient to have everything you need accessible and under your fingers - links to IRS, forms, guidance.
My biggest gripe is lack of connection of dependent's taxes to parents. I prepare taxes for dependent children whose investment accounts generate a small amount of gains and divs. It's a pain to have to partially prepare all the taxes and then fat-finger everyone's info into everyone else's forms.
And I think it's become too expensive. I can get a tax preparer to do my taxes for what I spend on the program and extra state. This will probably be my last year of using TT.
What's great about it: It's got almost everything at your fingertips.
What's not so great: too expensive and no support for dependent's taxes
