I loved Turbo Tax ...... until the finish.

I have used TurboTax since 2008. Anyone who is even a little bit computer savvy can do it. I will have a home business to claim next year, and I plan on using TurboTax again as the Deluxe version will still be good for all that entails.
I had trouble sending my transmission and went to Community Feedback. Other people had the same problem and told me how to get out of the problem. I tried it the next morning, and it worked!
What's great about it: Easy to use. All questions answered with your community feedback.
What's not so great: Wouldn't verify my transmission, excessive price for E-filing state tax.

My experience with TurboTax 2013
on April 15, 2014

In the past I have been able to use TurboTax easily, however this year it took me two days to finish my return. In the past it has taken me at the most 2 and a half hours. In the past it show you what form you needed and what to put in it but this year, I never saw the form until I did my complete tax return, which mean I had to print my tax return several times before I finish. This year I notice that the questions that users was asking was not being answered. The questions I had people had ask two weeks before and still there was no answer. This the main reason that I switch from H & R Block to Turbo, however next year I am going to look at H & R Block first and then if that doesn't word I might come back to TurboTax or have it done.
What's great about it: It same time
What's not so great: The program has change.

First time self tax filer and turbo tax had easy to understand and excellent explanations throughout the step by step process. I will definitely use it again next year.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

I've been using Turbo Tax for about 8 years. I love it. (Except for that little hiccup in 2009) I'll probably keep using it until they don't make it any more.
What's great about it: Fast, quick, accurate
What's not so great: You don't REALLY need to charge for the State filing

Cumbersome

While the tax product was accurate, I found it terribly frustrating to get answers to questions. There needs to be a help line available and easy to find. I would be happy to pay for answers to such things as how to eliminate a prior year form you don't need this year, instead of sifting through the many questions of others, the solutions of which were for the on-line version, not my downloaded version
What's great about it: Great program, but needs better responses to questions

Not So Good This year
on April 15, 2014

My big complaint is that with four 1099-R's from the same issuer (retirement benefits from three different funds plus 401-k transfer to an IRA), the electronic filing was kicked back three separate times. In each case the reason was that the IRS' electronic filing database couldn't match up the Payer's federal i.d. number with a name on its list. I called the Payer and was told that both TurboTax and Block require the name listed to be "Universal Fund," something overlooked on TurboTax. Even that was rejected.
What's great about it: Fairly intuitive.
What's not so great: Doesn't transfer data from previous year so well.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I liked the ease of the personal tax program. Had a blast working on our taxes. The programis pretty well laid out and easily understood. There were some moments of brief confusion but we managed to make it through. My wife and I are "Last Minute Hannas" and were happy to be able to get through this in a couple of hours, Our papers were everywhere.. Thank you!
What's great about it: Wording was easy to follow, Was able to get through easily
What's not so great: Had to re-do entires if back button was pushed.

NYS Tax error for 2012 - Could not tweak NYS 2013
on April 15, 2014

Turbo Tax 2012 correctly adjusted federal income for 414(h) retirement (federally deductable) but failed to include it as income in NYS return (not deductable for NYS). I received an adjustment with penalty for 2012. I attempted to check to ensure error did not occurr again for 2013 return but there was no obvious method to manualy adjust the NYS 2013 return. I had the same issue about 3 years ago and thought it was corrected but it appears it might be back.
What's great about it: Overall easy to use. Can bypass the annoying questions for tweaking)
What's not so great: Could not tweak the NYS Tax Return for 2013 to avoid former year error and penalty
