The worksheets are great for those not tax savvy.
The publication explanations are helpful.
I would like to see a detailed sheet of income, exemptions, and
deductions that I entered and what was taken.
I would like to have a sheet detailing the tax rates and taxes that add up to the total tax owed, along with a calculation of the effective tax rate.
Finally, a quick link to the Federal and state tax tables would allow verification of the tax calculation,
Overall, a terrific piece of software.
What's great about it: Instructions are easy to follow
What's not so great: Returning to a specific page can be more difficult.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Upset by Update

My 2013 filing went as smooth as a single malt until it came time to finish my returns, then it told me there was a from that required updating in order to complete the process. That's when i could have used the single malt -- the updater just never updated!! I tried it several times, even left it running all night, and it just wouldn't update TurboTax. I went to the website to get help on the issue, but all it did was send me back to the updater for the necessary forms.
I finally gave up and went to the IRS website to download the needed form and filled it out manually, just to be able to include it in my filing.
Needless to say, I'm not the happiest of campers. It's one thing to have to wait on the government to get its forms and procedures in order; it's another to have to wait on TurboTax when the updates are ready to be downloaded and used. I have come to expect a much better experience from the product.
What's great about it: The easy-to-read, easy-to-follow process that I've come to expect and appreciate about TurboTax
What's not so great: The endless loop of waiting to update a necessary form that wouldn't update
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

usually satisfied client

I find it really time consuming when I correct or review entries already entered into system. Do it right the first time and it is the best, but if you get off on the wrong foot, it is a round-about way to change entries.
What's great about it: I use the professional version at a tax office, so I am satisfied with turbotax
What's not so great: difficult to make corrections, when there are errors in original entries. I found it almost impossible to correct entry.

First of all, your tax reps are first rate. The time they take and their explanations are better than any tax professional I have ever used.
Where you are in the actual tax form could be a little easier to navigate. The forms could be off to the far right with where you are answering the questions highlighted. It would help avoid confusion & make answering the more complicated questions easier.
The error check should tell you the exact category and subsection instead of just taking you there. I had an issue where a trust I do not have had to be deleted the error check took me one step beyond the deletion. It was not easy to find in the menu but I eventually found it.
I like the side by side comparisons year-to-year. It helped me find my 1099R to a private party that is a bit complicated & your reps from 2012 helped me figure out.
I was a little surprised that I had a filing fee to electronically file my state tax. I think it's a bit high but it is convenient. You really can't deduct filing fees & costs unless you spent a lot of money to prep your taxes (CPAs, etc.,) and I doubt most Turbo Tax users do that
You've got a loyal customer here between your product and your tax professionals.
What's great about it: Download of last years online turbow tax was nice
What's not so great: The error check could be improved

Especially for retired people with similar answers and deductions...have a question up front : is this years return similar to last years return and then eliminate most of the screens.
What's great about it: detailed analysis and compete in getting savings
What's not so great: Too cluttered....rely on last years answers to declutter

can be challenging if you don't pay close attentio

If you need to file more than one state this can be a challenge to make sure you get credit for the taxes paid.
You need to be careful of the additional fees they want to hit you with to e-file the state taxes.
What's great about it: get to do your taxes yourself
What's not so great: fees they keep trying to add on

Fairly Complicated Return

I work overseas for a foreign company paid in a foreign currency with benefits and expenses (rent). I had to cash out a beneficial IRA this year. I have a home in the US that I rent out. Turbotax handled all of those situations well.
What's great about it: Handled my complicated tax situation well
What's not so great: The 27.5% MACRS depreciation I calculated was close, but not the same as what you calculated.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
