Very extensive, and always dependable

I have used Turbo Tax for many years, and have always found it to be complete and helpful in preparing my taxes. Access to the forms is a key feature for making sure that everything is properly documented. Covers all of the details that relate to my tax needs, and provides walk-through assistance for everything that I have needed. That is very helpful when it is a new situation that I'm dealing with for the first time. The online help is great at explaining the details behind a certain line item, and there is always the IRS instructions for additional clarity / confirmation.
What's great about it: Access to the forms for validation and direct editing.
What's not so great: Don't have full form access through web version, only CD version.

This is my fourth year of using Turbo Tax and have always been impressed with the ease of using this tool over trying to handle my taxes by hand.
What's great about it: The ease in handling all the information to fill out the tax forms
What's not so great: not too many complaints really
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Live Person to Contact
on April 14, 2014

There were several times when I had data entry questions, I could not locate the answer or call someone to answer the problem. My biggest entry problem was the K-1 with foreign transactions.
A second problem was to record about 300 option trades by hand (one-by-one). Need a program to format option trades on Form Schedule D.
What's great about it: When I had an entry question, I could not find a phone number to contact a live person.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Disappointed this year

My spouse and I live in 2 different states. We wanted to file our Fed taxes together, but needed to file our state taxes separate. This is doable, but we had to pay extra (the "free" state with the Fed return didn't apply), you can't e-file if you file jointly (who knew until the very final keystrokes?), and the process to go through this option wasn't clear and required 2 phone calls. We can't be the only couple in the US to be in this situation. I would have appreciated better up front info.
What's great about it: overall turbo tax is accurate and easy
What's not so great: for married filing jointly, esp when living in 2 states, the 'rules' aren't clear until the very end

I filled in that everyone has health insurance, but it would not let me get past this screen. I finally had to leave one dependent blank.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Some review questions keep holding up the return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TurboTax Deluxe 2013

When entering dividend income, no option was offered to specify the portion that was derived from interest on U.S. securities. This option was included in previous versions. i was able to enter the information only by reviewing the forms, and making the change on the form.
Also, a review of my return showed that I owed a small penalty, but there was no supporting worksheet to show how the penalty was determined. I only obtained that information by selecting the option to specify use of the annualized income method.
What's great about it: Leads you through all the steps to complete your return
What's not so great: Missing option on dividend income and tax penalties

Each year it feels easier and easier to complete my taxes. Maybe because I have no money. :) Or because the software is user friendly. The checks and reviews at the end adds a sense of calm before hitting the submit button. Not looking forward to next years tax filing but I will be using Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: I enjoy the transfer of bulk data from previous years returns. True time saver.
What's not so great: None that I can think of.

Easy to use, but when issue arose with a special state form, the help forum gave what I thought was too brief a response to the same question I also had. Had to call support for further clarification.
What's great about it: Familiarity ... similarity to previous versions
What's not so great: Had an issue with a state form
