Great Experience

Filing a tax return is a painful experience. Each year brings its own difficulties. I have never been disappointed by Turbo Tax. Thank you.
What's great about it: Primary Pro is ease of going through the steps; second pro is reasonable cost of product. Great Experience!
What's not so great: Had to keep coming back for a financial question; ultimately on the day I filed, it was resolved.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I had used TT several years ago and then had some complex filing issues that I needed an accountant for. Tried TT again and it walked me through all the steps that I needed- great software!!
What's great about it: direct e-filing, ability to electronically fill in forms with data
What's not so great: had to pay feds and state

Seems to always be the same, even if different....

Never straightforward, but easier than doing it by hand. If you make an incorrect entry (or check the wrong box) it's not always easy to find where to correct it. And some situations are not thoroughly -- or correctly -- addressed, such as eligibility for deducting health insurance payments if you are self-employed.
If you just answer the questions the program asks, without researching the applicable IRS instructions, you may very well make "mistakes" which can have significant consequences if you are audited.
What's great about it: It works. Easier than doing it by hand.
What's not so great: Still not streamlined. Does not address some situations.

I have been using the TurboxTax since 2002 and doing it myself
What's great about it: Easy to use and the best part is that the software asks questions to make sure I have filled out all the forms

Installation Problems: Otherwise Great
on April 14, 2014

I have used Turbotax for three straight years. Once I get it installed, it works as advertised. However, installation is difficult.
I purchased it, installed it, and ran it. When I went to start a new return, the program threw up an error message, auto-reported, and closed. This happened repeatedly. It took my an hour of searching online to find a forum report of a fix. The fix involved deleting a Windows Update and another piece of installed software. Once deleted, the program worked, and I completed my return.
I had exactly this problem last year, and the year before. No reason exists for this problem. I use a plain vanilla version of Windows 7; a program like TurboTax should not conflict with an average installation. TurboTax, pay your developers to fix this glitch once and for all.
Otherwise, good software and very helpful.
What's great about it: Ease of use, completeness of info, transfer from prior years, e-file
What's not so great: Installation problems, outdated software base

I've been using this product for a number of years and it would take quite a bit to make me change. It's easy to use, logical and friendly, with plenty of support available (particularly for federal) if you have questions or want to do some research. It gets a bit confusing when something unusual like moving in mid-year occurs, and you have to know what your doing when you tell it you sold your home. Especially if you built a new home rather than buying an existing home. State tax forms can be a bit more daunting because, if they use a term that doesn't make sense it's a bit of a challenge to get the term defined more than basically. All that being said, I wouldn't trade this software for any other option out there.
What's great about it: easy, friendly, covers all the bases
What's not so great: limited help for states
Pros: I moved

Entering date in TurboTax is very easy. Prompting questions are good. Refund amount shows as you enter data. My capital loss carry over didn't seem to work for state return. K1 income/data entry is confusing. Overall TurboTax is good but some of the more complex investment reporting can be tricky. I wish there was more help on these items.
What's great about it: easy entry and review, data transfer from prior tax return
What's not so great: capital gain/loss carryover from prior year, K1 income
Pros: I bought or sold investments
