Great Tool for Taxes

We have used an accounting firm for years and did not get the detail that we did with Turbo Tax. We found that we can deduct items that we didn't know about before. It has worked very well for us and is very user friendly.
What's great about it: The detail that is provided is tremendus.
What's not so great: State Efile should also be included as free service.

I didn't like not being able to just complete a form 8606. I had to enter information in your help worksheet to populate the form which was more complicated then the form itself.
What's great about it: Pretty thorough
What's not so great: Counldn't just complete form 8606. Had to enter information in help worksheet which was more complicated then the form

Painless!

Thank goodness for TurboTax! We used to pay hundreds to file our simple return with a local accountant. Never again! Thanks, Intuit!
What's great about it: Step by step guidance with access to explanations and discussion
What's not so great: None for a simple return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Love TurboTax

I've been a TurboTax user for years and don't plan on changing! The one year I actually had someone else do our taxes, there was a mistake - not too costly, but a pain none-the-less. No problems with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Easy to use; helps me get taxes done fast.
What's not so great: None - I love it.

Fast and Cheap

Much improved over 2012, which gave me nothing but problems from the get-go, such that I had to get an extension for 2012. My 2012 return contained errors, such that I paid more than I should have. Fortunately, the State found the problems and sent my over-payment, which still didn't make up for the late fee I had to pay for filing the extension late, as I couldn't get the software to send out the return on time. I was reluctant to purchase 2013 software, but it worked well, and it took me less than 2 hours to finish returns. I would recommend software, as it's practically impossible to do anything manually anymore, and the price is right. USA Today reported that 3 out of 10 tax preparers make errors, so I'd just as soon rely on my own data entry with the TurboTax software.
What's great about it: It worked and cost significantly less than hiring an accountant.
What's not so great: Still minor problems entering institutional data. Need better explanations with IRA information.
