The Software in an Annual Workhorse

I am a longtime user. Overall, I like the product and the structure it provides to a time consuming, stressful period of the year..
On the downside, if I am missing a piece of information, such as a charitable deduction, sometimes it is slow to get back to the right spot to be able to enter in the missing information.

Turbotax needs to address common questions from the normal guy. The software did not have good advice on what to do with my short term capital gain distribution from Vanguard Prime Money Market. My 1099-DIV was below $10 so I did not get the form from Vanguard. Turboxtax should be aware of confusing situations like this.
What's great about it: Good and reliable
What's not so great: Did not anticipate my special (but I think common) problem.

Federal is great - state is good

I struggled with the insane IRS forms guidance on capital gains for 2 days and finally bought TurboTax. It took only about 45 minutes to do Federal and state tax with TurboTax---and I got back about $500 refund instead of paying about $300 in state income tax as I had calculated manually.
It did not import all of the 1099 info from the Federal forms and there was one screen I needed a help link and there was none in the Mississippi data collection.
What's great about it: TurboTax got me several hundred dollars refund I would not have gotten.
What's not so great: It did not import some 1099-Int and 1099-Div info to state form.

What's not so great: charged twice for e-file. did not id ssn error until late in the 'filing' process

Another Successful Year

I've been using TurboTax products nearly every year since I filed my first return. While my taxes aren't that complex, the program has helped me negotiate the ins and outs of home purchases, new babies, stock sales and educational expenses through the years. And it easily navigates clergy allowances. Would definitely recommend.
What's great about it: Loads previous year's information & simple step by step
What's not so great: None that I've experienced

Getting Better

I've used Turbo Tax in the past and always had questions, but as the years have passed, I don't know if my experience is getting better or the software is better, but it was much easier and alot more faster to get through.
What's great about it: was easier guide that was understandable
