All the questions contained in the software were very easy to understand and if there were terms I didn't understand, the "explain this" worked just great. Everything you need to file for the government should be this easy. Turbo Tax is highly recommended.

Difficult transmission

I had difficulty with foreign tax credit, estimated tax projection for 2014 and the transmission of the returns. Took 4 attempts to figure out how to successfully file, and each time I had to go through an entire process only to have it fail again. Also not a fan of the automatic download of investment activity. The form listed Vanguard Marketing Company or something similar, which did not match the info on my 1099. I deleted it and entered the information by hand.
What's great about it: Familiar
What's not so great: More buggy than in past

Excellent program, quick and easy to follow. Some deductions and situations I did not qualify for but I spent extra time answering and looking up records. This could be improved by asking more information up front to determine quickly if deduction is relevant, for example, "did you drive more than X% for business ?"

Very frustrating!!

This year TurboTax Deluxe wanted a worksheet to justify or explain an entry of $0.00. Plus a few other very frustrating issues. Fortunately I discovered that the right mouse button would let me override the dumb stuff TurboTax kept insisting on, and life got much better.
And why does TurboTax insist on the name for a LOCAL tax agency when all the local $ entries are $0. And we spent way too much time arguing with the program about the ZIP code (46268) for a contribution to Zeta Tau Alpha in Indianapolis. I have their receipt but TT wouldn't accept the ZIP code. I finally deleted the whole contribution.

Updates are a pain

I have been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years & have always been a BIG supporter of this software, talking many of my friends & family into using it. This year, for the first time in my history of using this software, the update feature was redesigned, in my opinion very poorly. Previously, when launching the software, the first thing it did was "check for updates". No more...now you have to realize that the updates are not automatic & you have to choose the update feature from the online menu & run them yourself. If you are a new user, this is probably no big deal, but for a long time user like myself, it was a big pain & took me about 1/2 hr of searching through the on line support before I found a previous question with the proper answer...all in how you word your searches, I guess. After I ran all the updates, of course, the software was it's normal wonderful self & I was able to complete several tax returns using it with no further issues. PLEASE make the updates run like they use to!
