bit frustrating
on April 14, 2014

this year was a bit frustrating because after closing program to return and finish the process at a later date, it did not save my file, then when ALREADY entering all info again it crashed towards the very end AND needless to say, it was very upseting!
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: crash at times

2013 is done!

I have been using Turbo Tax for many years. I feel confident because the program asks me all the questions. I don't have to guess. I also appreciate the continuous update of amount due or amount credit we will get as I proceed through the form's process.
I am also grateful for the pictures of some of the forms I get in the mail, so I can know I have the right form to use in the correct location in the tax process.
Thanks.
What's great about it: love the step-by-step for people like me who need guidance.
What's not so great: wish the donations part was altogether not listing at a later time.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

A Great Tool

The walk through for the forms is a great way to go. It would be nice if reviews were at the end of each section, instead of very end.
What's great about it: Walk through is the way to go
What's not so great: Maybe have reviews at end of sections instead of very end

Taxes Made Easier
on April 14, 2014

I've used Turbo Tax for several years, coming to it from Fast Tax. I have consistently found Turbo Tax to be easier and seems more complete than F-T.
What's great about it: Very thorough, most questions quickly answered, easily understood
What's not so great: One item on Arkansas State Tax form would not let me enter info the way I attempted. "Bottom line" didn't change.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo Tax Deluxe 2013 Better But Harder
on April 14, 2014

In years past TurboTax was the epitome of check box completion: fill in a few blanks and send it in. In the past couple of years it seems like I have to make a lot more decisions with a lot less help. I used to be directed to an IRS form/instruction in addition to some helpful guidance from TurboTax. Not so anymore. A little bit of help, then a referral to the community. I can't imagine how much more opinion and how much less knowledge could be possible. Also, I used to exit and save where I was working and when I resumed the program I'd be exactly back where I left off. Not any more unless I set a flag. Not convenient. I used to know how much my last year's state refund amount was very easily...not any more since the amount TurboTax listed did not agree with the amount my state deposited in my bank a year ago. Why not? Apparently TurboTax decided that the actual refund most correct technically should also have included an amount for a credit against my tax. But I assure you, it was not refunded to me and appeared to be the wrong amount. Was I offered any hint why the previous year refund amount did not agree? No. Was it easy to find out why in the help section? Again, no. Did the community assistance help? Actually, sorta yes since other people noticed the 2012 refund amount did not agree with our records. One helpful soul did explain that he had been told that the tax difference was a credit applied to him, but he, and others, argued that the credit was not actually a refund. Let's face it. In the final analysis, my state tax auditor is the final authority. Big deal? Nope, not at all. Counterproductive and counterintuitive? You bet. I found 2013 TurboTax is a lot harder to use, harder to navigate, and takes a lot more effort to understand. It got me through tax season once again so I hope I'm not complaining overly much. I did get a nice refund.
What's great about it: I think the software is very complete and thorough
What's not so great: But...too many manual navigation steps and less help with decisions

Confusing
on April 14, 2014
Posted by: LTFFarms
I have used TurboTax now for at least the past 6 year's returns. I know the law is getting more complicated each year, but this program can be confusing sometimes as to what can be deducted and what can't, and where it should go in the tax form. I know I have somethings that should be deductible, but I was never asked or directed as to where to go to include them. This seems to be a recurring theme with TurboTax. Still, it is by far the best program out there as last year I tried a couple of other programs for comparison.
What's great about it: The ease of not having to sort thru several pages of IRS Forms
What's not so great: As usual, this is still a bit confusing as to what is & isn't included.
