Tax Return 2013
on April 14, 2014
Posted by: donbell124
Some departures from previous versions of TurboTax. For example, no apparent override instructions to change program initiated entries(?).
Didn't notice a lot of videos to explain topics.
What's great about it: Very thorough and detailed.
What's not so great: Not intuitive at times.

Payer Information for Pension
on April 14, 2014
Posted by: Sushrob
I kept retyping the name and address of my pension payer because the IRS instructions are not clear as to what goes on which line or in which box. Also, "country" should include "USA" or "United States of America", not just "not applicable." It's hard to figure out.
What's not so great: Confusing
Pros: I moved

Overall good experience. Best part is using this program eliminates the need to keep up with the mryiad of changes in tax law from year to year.
What's great about it: easy to use, very detailed in most cases
What's not so great: need clearer instruction on how to handle 1099-Q's
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Why the Glitch on Michigan State return?
on April 14, 2014
Posted by: knah7007
I've used turbo tax since the 90's, typically without a gltich. BUT, when I transferred info to the Michigan State Forms this year, it said I owed over $2,000, even though we did NOT make over $95,000 which is the non taxable amount for the state. Two things saved the day - the on line Q&A service was abundantly filled with people who had similar problems with the Michigan return. After reading a couple of them, I manually adjusted the Michigan Form 4884 and the Schedule 1, and wound up with the correct number of zero for this return. Some of the comments about this were at least two weeks old, so there should have been ample time to get the errors corrected.
What's great about it: Everything went well for Federal tax return
What's not so great: MAJOR problem with handling retirement income for Michigan Returnj
