Mixed up instructions for K-1's
on September 9, 2014

Filed out every detail exactly as shown on K-1's but you found some missing information and there was no way to override and email.
Never again.
What's great about it: --
What's not so great: Can't override your mistakes

Always reliable

I have successfully used Turbo Tax for the past 17 years. I believe that my returns are prepared accurately and fairly and they seek all legitimate deductions. I find the step-by-step instructions invaluable and would recommend Turbo Tax to anyone!
What's great about it: I especially appreciate the help available throughout the filing process.
What's not so great: I would love to be able to print screen shots, not just an entire return.

I don't know if I should upgrade. Maybe Turbo tax could offer an example to help me decide?
What's great about it: Pretty good. Easy enough
What's not so great: Many commercials to upgrade

Done Early with TurboTax

I like all the features with TurboTax, however would like to have a means to print the selected page individually.
What's great about it: Great to wrap up my taxes without having to rush off to the PO on the 15th!
What's not so great: Not as easy as I'd like to print a page I'm working on without selecting PDF View, and scrolling to that page.

Turbotax is the best

This was the easiest TT to date. Some of the messages were not clear and caused me to really put some thinking of what you meant.
I said above it would be great to have quick link to last years taxes I had my printed copy and I could open the file, but if it was connected I could see page by page, topic by topic.
What's great about it: made it easy to finish quickley
What's not so great: It would be great to link with prior year turbotax

I have been using TurboTax for years and it has been a systemic and easy way to work with my taxes and gives me a feeling of confidence when filint.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to understand for a non professional accountant.

Can't Live With It, Can't Live Without It

1. This year's printed forms have a larger font and wider spacing between lines. This causes the printer to cut off as many as 2 lines at the bottom of some forms -- no way of getting around it. (I'm using the same printer and settings as I did the last 2 years, and I have compared printed copies of last year's forms with this year's. The differences in font and spacing are obvious.)
2. The "Presidential Election Campaign" option remains buried far inside the interview process and is too easily missed. (No wonder fewer taxpayers are electing this option -- TurboTax makes it too easy to miss. This option is very near the *top of the front page of Form 1040, right at the beginning of every return.* It should be at the beginning of the EasyStep interview, too!
3. Instruction for when to enter data on points for a refinanced mortgage weren't as clear as in the passed, so they were easy to miss. If I hadn't been on the lookout for that deduction specifically, by comparing with last year's return, I may not have noticed it.
4. Some worksheets were difficult or impossible to print by themselves. Doing this is often helpful in verifying and double-checking inputs and may be essential to see why TurboTax puts certain things in certain places.
5. Instructions for Form 4868 says it'll tell you where to file the form, but it doesn't. Also, it prints only p. 1 of a 4-page set of forms and instructions.
6. Interview for *estimated taxes* didn't ask about tax withholding to date in the current year! This is obviously a significant error!
7. Unclear how to print forms and worksheets -- if it's possible at all -- that don't become part of the final return, e.g., the "2013 Tax Breakdown" and Form 8960 and its worksheet.
8. When filling in data for estimated taxes (for current year), there are 2 separate boxes that ask if you want vouchers printed. One of those options *must* be selected (I forget which one), or the program doesn't show what the quarterly payments should be.
9. State return (Virginia): Deduction for long-term health care insurance doesn't flow correctly among forms.
10. State return (Virginia): "Print Vouchers" option keeps resetting to "Yes" if you make certain changes in other parts of the interview or form, even after you select "no" the first time. The state already mails preprinted vouchers to anyone who files estimated taxes, so TurboTax's voucher versions are rarely needed. By all means, keep this option available, but set the default option to "No," or fix the program so once you select "No," it doesn't automatically reset to "Yes." It took TurboTax *years* to fix this problem with the Federal returns. Please fix it for the Virginia return, too!
What's great about it: EasyStep interview process, Improved navigation vs. previous years, especially between Interview and Forms
What's not so great: Errors & omissions in State returns; Printing format causes printer to cut off last 1-2 lines of some forms (more below)

It would be nice if....
on October 7, 2014

Everything was going fine until I had to pay the IRS money back. I did an extension and sent $1K with it to the IRS. When I completed my taxes, I expected to pay the rest online and was not able to. I had to send a check with another form to the IRS.
It would be nice if you could attach proof of advance payment and be able to pay the difference when you efile.
What's great about it: Accuracy, quickness, ease of use
What's not so great: Does not include a way to make payment online when you've had an extension and already sent some of the total due
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
