Tax Software that endures

I have used Turbo Tax since its very beginning. It is robust and helpful in guiding the user through the process. It maintains minimal software overhead to function (frugal in memory, disk & operating system overhead). It appears to have come to rely too much on other Turbo Tax users for advice; while a wiki (info.) approach is popular it can be very risky and one should always rely on expert tax advice, including the IRS. I believe the price of the software has lost its competitive edge; however I believe Turbo Tax could add value to its ever increasing price by providing no additional cost filing for all states that have income tax filing requirements...this would help with marketing. Offering the so called free on line service really doesn't measure up and is only useful for the most simple tax return, which is a minority occurance.
I like Turbo Tax... I do not plan to change, but adding more value to the product would help maintain allegiance and repeat customers and more positive feeling among the user base. Thanks

What's great about it: the step by step guide that helps to make certain the outcome is correct
What's not so great: Too many sources for help are centered on others that use Turbo Tax; be very aware of this!

This is a fantastic program. It has always been user friendly and it continues to improve. I recommend it to everyone that is paying a CPA to do their taxes.
What's great about it: Very user friendly
What's not so great: Some difficulty in going to the forms.

Excessively long process drags the user through page after page of alternatives.
1. When the user says "no, don't have that" Turbo-Tax still insists on dragging him through every possible entry in the unneeded section. Business expenses come to mind: I don't have any so why does Turbo-Tax not just say n/a or something instead of acting as though I still need to visit each and every line.
2. Another annoyance is to have to continually scroll down to the current entry #this in the Income summary page for example#. When you fill out one section you always bounce back to the top of the list and have to scroll down a very long list in the summary page. This is unnecessary and annoying.

Has ItsDeductable program so you don't have to guess at value of donated items. I have used TurboTax for over 20 years and somehow they manage to improve the program every year. What a pleasure to use
What's great about it: Interview easy, cross-checks everything, duck-soup to edit, has all the forms, shows last year's numbers, asks question
What's not so great: Not much of anything that I note.

Great Product

Being a person who is easily confused with federal tax returns, TurboTax made everything easy so that I was calm and confident while I was figuring out the entries.
What's great about it: Made everything very easy and quick
What's not so great: Couldn't figure out how to get back to the forms after looking at printing
