Notch down from previous years
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: llissa
Fist time I've had a couple items left from my paperwork that I've always filled in (and was asked about with the Step-by-Step) but was never addressed this year. Difficult to know where those things should have gone.
What's great about it: Step-by-Step
What's not so great: Step-by-Step missing steps

Problems downloading updates and state
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: BruceJ
We could not get TurboTax to download updates or the State files with Windows 8. Many other people had the same problem on the help files. Nothing worked, spent many hours trying to fix and finally loaded TurboTax CD on an older XP PC with same version of Norton Internet Security. That worked but I wasted many hours. Have you considered refunds?
What's great about it: Worked once loaded but very frustrated user
What's not so great: Terrible interface with Windows8...didn't work!

You already roughly already know what my AGI is and you know that I will not be eligible for a credit, so don't make me go through the trouble of filling out these items.
Examples: College Credit for child, IRA, house credit, etc
What's not so great: Forced to fill out items when no credit is possible due to high AGI

Too complex

Why it gave me all these adjustments as community property, when it gave no explanations as to why or how it was calculated. It took me quite a while to go to the items and remove them. I had to find the way to maneuver to each item individually. Then the system told me they should be blank!! So why were they inserted in the first place?!
What's great about it: I liked the fact that it can populate the W2 info with a strokes of info. Saves alot of time
What's not so great: In filing as domestic partner, it included all kinds of credits as community property adjustments without any explanatio

Increased Fees
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: bippchen
Some of the fees were too high in relation to the anticipated returns and or payments.
What's great about it: Gives step by step analysis of filing taxes
What's not so great: Increased fees for filing state returns and for doing a 2nd state return
