The Only Way to File
on April 13, 2014

I have a fairly complicated return, since I own and live in a duplex and own another rental house in addition. I also seem to always have some complicated IRA issues, since I've changed jobs a few times in the last 3 years, and had to move my retirement accounts several times. Despite the complications, I always end up getting my taxes done myself, and in addition, I feel like going through the program makes me more aware of the tax consequences of my financial decisions. I'm not sure having my taxes done would cause me to think about tax strategies to the same extent.
What's great about it: Mostly quick and strangely satisfying, easy to make changes
What's not so great: Don't like having to go through some questions over and over just to make a small change
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Great Program - Easy To Use
on April 13, 2014

I've used this product since it was introduced. The "walk you through each step" procedure makes the process simple and easy to follow. Importing last year's tax return information saves time. The on screen comparison of last year's income and expenses is very helpful. I have recommended this program to all of my friends and coworkers.
What's great about it: Unbelievably easy. Walks you through everything.
What's not so great: None. It just gets better every year.

Somehow my SS# got on a form for a S Corp. I don't have a S Corp. I was not able to remove it. Getting ready to efile the program asked for addresses already entered on K1's. Every year Turbo Tax becomes less user friendly. What was easy several years ago is now a pain in the butt. Not next year. I'm using a different provider. They can't be worse!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Don't Move in Ohio During the Year in the same sta
on April 13, 2014

I've used Turbo Tax for 15 years to file my taxes, and have been VERY happy. Now, at year 16...not so much. We had the AUDACITY to move to a different area in the state of Ohio, and Turbo Tax could not figure out the taxes. So, I did manual overrides on the the settings in order to get our information to show correctly in Turbo Tax...for example...move to a different school district in the state of Ohio, and it only allows you to select the school district you currently live in...no splits allowed. You can manually override this but...here is where the "fun" starts. I managed to override settings enough to get my taxes to align with what the state, cities, and school districts wants. I went to file the state return, entered payment information for the state, and...then was told that because I have overrides, I have to mail my claim. OK...annoying, but I have all the forms, so...no, wait! The charge for the state TurboTax filing already went through, even though I cannot, apparently, use TT to file. Yes, there will be a dispute files, but this entire state moving issue needs to be resolved, as one of Turbo Tax's selling points (from the commercials I've seen) focus on TT's ability to handle moves. You have failed, TurboTax, for the state of Ohio.
What's great about it: I could still file my federal taxes separately
What's not so great: TT does not correctly calculate Ohio state and local taxes during a move
Pros: I moved
