Taxes Done Just In Time
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: Pat1701Stew
For our state return we file separately on the same form rather than jointly as for federal taxes. Turbo tax takes care of apportioning the amounts between taxpayer and spouse amounts which would be a real chore to do by hand.
What's great about it: Easy to enter info based on questions
What's not so great: Printed forms include a fe with no data
Pros: I bought or sold investments

not sure what is going on with the sales tax. Will I get an additional refund later?
What's great about it: easy to use, imports are great from last year and employers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

We have been using TuboTax for at least 10 years now and we are always amazed at how much easier the software is made each year.

I accidently hit a wrong key and closed the window. I had to start again; but, it didn't take long to redo. Love Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Quick, accurate, no printing and mailing
What's not so great: Needs a quick Save button

ip identification number for e-file
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: ajhowrd
When filing by e-file, do we need both e file id numbers and ip numbers provided by form CP01A? With the the current set-up , I somehow missed instructions on entering this number prior to sending e-file. I suggest it should be flagged during final review. Thanks , Allen Howard

So annoying!

i am very disappointed with Turbo Tax this year. I had issues correctly reporting Other Income. Also, the program kept telling me that updates were required, even after i completed them. Lastly, the program would not let me e-file. And the extra charge for state e-filing - even if it was working - is unfair. Highly annoying process; I will be looking at alternatives next year.

K-1 handling needs lots of work
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: jowens11
TurboTax really needs to make sure that the state K-1s (for instance, Massachusetts's 3K-1) are reflected as "forms" in TurboTax's internal forms. For the states where there are no K-1 forms within TurboTax, it's a total disaster to try to fill in a state K-1. And Massachusetts is the worst of all—that's just a nightmare to do with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Some states have easy K-1 handling (CA)
What's not so great: Some states have horrible K-1 handling (MA)
