easy to do

I have used Turbo Tax for years and been very happy with the ease of entering pertinent information. Being able to go item by item or skip around as my information became available makes things easy. I also like the review and chance of being audited. However, one year I had an issue and never was able to get assistance. I finally had to pay a CPA to get it worked out.
What's great about it: easy to understand and follow
What's not so great: hard to contact a professional for help

relatively easy

This is my fifth year of using turbo tax. It was good to see all of the deductions available to use even though I didn't need most of them. There was an issue in resuming data entry. I had installed the program and got to the point of entering W-2 information when I had to quit (saving data then exiting normally). When I restarted the program it took me to the area after entering the W-2's. later (deductions area) I had cats lying across or walking across the keyboard and it did a save and close but I was able to resume from where I left off.
What's great about it: it looked for all deductions
What's not so great: some areas were hard to return to after exiting

see above this is critical.
Federal filing jointly and spouses 2 different State - if you do second State the "Taxpayer" can't be switched.
What's great about it: GREAT - love Step by Step
What's not so great: Can't calculate taxes without reinputting changing "taxpayer" from Federal when 2 spouses in 2 different states.

Taxes done easily once again
on April 13, 2014

I've been using turbo tax for years and it just gets better every year. The federal program is about as easy as it gets and everything that applies to your state taxes transfers over. I also like that my previous year information automatically transfers into my new return.
What's great about it: Very easy to use, I really feel I get the best refund with turbo tax.
What's not so great: State taxes are not as easy as federal, but still far easier than doing them by hand.

Mostly Great
on April 13, 2014

We first used TurboTax in 2002. Each year useful features have been added (such as the handling of charitable deductions), and each year, the instructions are clearer and less ambiguous. Incorporation of information from previous year's returns is quite helpful. If I had all my paperwork in order, it would take only a few hours to complete federal and state returns.
Automatic downloading of information from employers and financial firms is not useful to us. Most of our sources do not appear in Turbo Tax lists. But this is OK. I wish that data entry boxes would accept pasting, especially of complicated passwords. It's easy to make a typing error if the password is, for example, i399$#?2diwotxxx! Our other issue is that it is almost too easy to select an unwanted service, especially near the very end. Finally, the state filing fee increased by 25% over 2012. This is a hefty increase in an era of low inflation.
All in all, however, I am pleased with Turbo Tax and have never regretted using it for the past twelve tax years.
What's great about it: 1. Turbo Tax does almost all the work. 2. Turbo Tax is easier to use than last year.
What's not so great: 1. Password box doesn't allow pasting. 2. It's too easy to select an optional service inadvertently.

I bought a new car in 2013 and looked all over on how or where to post the sales tax. The software automatically chose the standard deduction for me. I'd like to know or see where that decision is made.
What's great about it: Easy - easy - easy....
What's not so great: smoke and mirrors with sales taxes?

Makes Taxes Less Painful
on April 13, 2014
Posted by: Nike101
TurboTax takes much of the pain out of doing taxes. The questions are in plain English, but some of the questions are still rather tricky, thanks to U.S. tax laws. It is great that everything can be done on-line. I like being able to start, stop, and review when I choose.
What's great about it: Easy to set up and quite easy to use.
What's not so great: Well, who really wants to go through this process??
