Good but tedious

TurboTax is a great product. But if you need to go back and check or change something, you can't just return to the one item. You have to go through pages and pages of questions you've already researched and answered to get to the thing you need to look at. If you receive all your tax information promptly and can sit down and go straight through the return, then its great. If you need to piecemeal because you don't have all your information, it a real pain.

State Forms Incomplete

The Oregon State Tax forms require an invoice to be submitted with the payment. The program did not include the form, and the company's solution was to require the customer to go the web site of the Oregon Department of Revenue to download and print out the form.
What's great about it: Does the calculations
What's not so great: Makes you go to State Tax Authority for forms

A easy and cost-effective tax return prep for most

I have used Turbo Tax to prepare my family's federal and state income tax returns for more than 15 years. Although it is not a perfect program, it has saved me a substantial amount of time to organize the necessary information and to prepare all returns. It is well worth the price (but please do not increase the price). On occasion, for example the Wisconsin adjustment for a difference in the basis of capital assets, I knew how the Wisconsin tax return should report that information, but I did not achieve that with my initial input; perhaps the Turbo Tax instructions could be a little more clear on that topic. Other than that and similar differences, Turbo Tax has been an excellent program for me, and I will continue to use it.
What's great about it: The relatively simple approach with questions and answers is easy for both experienced and novice preparers
What's not so great: The questions and information provided to enter a different basis for Wisconsin capital assets were not clear
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Painful process made almost painless

Turbo Tax is very user friendly and seems to cover all the bases. Combined with its electronic filing feature, the feature of importing last year's information into this year's tax returns significantly reduces the tedium of preparing and filing both state and federal tax returns.
What's great about it: Importing last year's info into this year's returns greatly simplifies and streamlines the process

Hate taxes! Love TurboTax

I do both my taxes and my father's taxes every year. TurboTax makes it easier. (Now if I would just get myself in gear earlier!)
What's great about it: Done fast. Like ripping off a band aid. Hurts less.
What's not so great: Sometimes it asks questions that don't apply to me at all, but maybe they apply to someone else, so it's okay.
