Best Tax Program

I have used other tax programs in the past. The other companies programs said I needed to download additional forms for my taxes...It did not have all of the needed forms in the program I bought. Why bother paying for a tax program if it doesn't have all of the tax forms???
What's great about it: The updates keep you current at all times.
What's not so great: It kept printing copy after copy

Instructions Easy to Follow

I haven't done my own tax returns since I got married, but last year decided to give it a try since my husband no longer had a business. TurboTax walks you through every step, with several levels of explanation available. Once you feel secure with it, there is a mode where you can move more quickly without the hand-holding.
What's great about it: Makes sure you didn't forget anything
What's not so great: I thought it should have saide "Are you sure?" when a typo made a value hugely different than the year before.

Thorough questioning technique

I have used TurboTax for years and could not do taxes without it. Importing information from last year helps in remembering all the different forms I usually get. Last year comparisons also help in identifying an area that may not have complete information, especially in the investment income area.
I wish TurboTax made a product for 1041s, the estate tax returns. I had to file my mother's estate tax returns by hand and both years I made an error (against her estate's benefit) that was caught and corrected by the IRS.
What's great about it: I really like all the questions that have to be answered. I usually go through the step by step process first .
What's not so great: Sometimes I can't find the answer to a question I have

Years of Confidence!

We been using TurboTax for more than 10 years with few problems or concerns. Each of the errors we have had to deal with are a result of missing information. Fortunately, those usually resulted in greater refunds for our family.

What's great about it: Smooth guideance through the categories. Help and definition features helping with explanations for unfamliar forms.
What's not so great: Few or None! The challenges usually arise from my ignorance or unfamiliarity with terms.

Overall, Turbotax is a great product. It takes a lot of stress out of the process of compiling tax returns. My three complaints are fairly minor: It listed some contest winnings as 'Gambling Winnings'. I don't know if it is my printer or Turbotax, but printing two-sided pages was a mistake: page backs did not always correspond with the page fronts. Printing copies for my records included printing the federal returns twice (once for the state returns). This is redundant and a waste of paper and ink.
Overall though, this is a great product and we have been using it for years and plan on continuing with it every year. Thank you.

Want easy conversion from JOINT to MFSs

Each year I create a JOINT return, then 2 MFS returns, to see which is best. This would be much easier if there were "Supporting Details" for each entry (or "Self" and "Spouse") and a universal way of deleting the "other" entries.
Then I would
1. create the JOINT return
2 .copy it to start 2 MFS returns
3. Use the "universal delete" of the "spouse" entries on my MFS return
4.Use the "universal delete" of the "self" entries for the other MFS return.

What's great about it: Supporting Details option on many entries

federal carryover worksheet

i do not use turbo tax for my state filing and i finally entered the amount of state taxes for 2012 just to get my federal taxes filed. i was kicked back to the worksheet several times before i finally entered the amount.
please make sure that i do not have to go through this process again. I DO NOT USE TURBO TAX TO FILE MY STATE RETURN.
What's great about it: good as prior years
What's not so great: except for federal carry over worksheet
