Love Turbo Tax

Truly an excellent product. Does not suffer the shortcomings of most commercial software products. Thorough, straight forward and yet intelligent enough to prompt you when some response seems questionable. When filing multiple state returns this program is tremendous. What used to take hours is a few keystrokes.

What's not so great: Would like direct answers to questions from TT when asking for help instead of forum

Comfort in Familiarity

One reason I keep coming back to TurboTax (this now makes year 16) is the ease with which all my previous information is automatically imported. As an IT professional, I hate having to repeat tasks when I know simple coding should do that for me. And since we really only use the product for a few weeks once a year, similarity in branding makes it that much easier. Our [insert expletive] tax code is convoluted enough, so thanks for making this as simple as possible.
But, I also like to easily move around a platform from one section to another. So was surprised when I did not see the bulleted drop-down menu (kind of like a 'site map') from the View tab. Please bring that back.
I've also noticed the price to e-file state returns goes up every year - at a rate far exceeding CPI inflation. Since I had to file in Delaware, I used Turbo tax to crunch the numbers, then thought I'd go to the free DE treasury site. It calculated my tax bill as $90 dollars higher! so even paying the fee on TurboTax still allowed me to pay less overall. Now we'll see if the state comes back to audit me! But no more worries since I've no moved to Texas which does not have a state income tax.
What's great about it: Changed what was needed for tax law, yet branding was very similar
What's not so great: what happened to the drop-down feature for the sections? bring that back

MY THOUGHTS ON 2013 TURBO TAX

LOVED IT!!! I have a relatively complicated tax return including education expense/interest, business expenses, charitable contributions, retirement accounts, every type of 1098/1099 imaginable and W-2's. Turbo Tax made it all easy. Even e-filing was very simple.
The only place I encountered difficulties was in depreciation of business expense vehicle I traded in. Still not sure if I did that correctly.
All in all it's a great program. Easy to use and performs great.
What's great about it: ITEM BY ITEM WALK THRU
What's not so great: DEPRECIATION HELP
