No Stress Tax Filing
on April 13, 2014

Over the past couple of decades, my tax situation has changed many times including being employed, having my own business, having a home office, significant and complicated investments, house buying and selling and adoption. I used to prepare my own taxes. It was a nightmare trying to figure out all the rules and changes in the rules and the complex inter-form relationships. I used to invest in books and spend hundreds of hours reading them before trying to do my own taxes. Turbotax took away all the stress and complications and every year the product is improved and even easier than before. PS: I've never been audited or even had any part of my return questioned by IRS.
What's great about it: Ive relied on Turbotax for decades and love it. No matter what my tax situation has been, everything was covered.
What's not so great: I've never been able to find any fault with any part of this product.

T.Tax Takes the Top

I was in my late 70's before I ever worked on taxes. I tired of paying high tax preparation fees, I used the advice of a relative who usesTurbo Tax, and I ventured on my own. This step-by-step method & the opportunity to go back, review, correct, & check numerous summaries make TurboTax a very good tax program for the uninitiated.. Dealing with 1099s and other aspects of tax work can be intimidating. But, the questioning system and the explantions are helpful & informative, allowing me to make the correct decisions. Filing is easy & painless. I use the Deluxe form since I must use Schedule A. Also, for seven years TurboTax has provided excellent help, whether through chat room, phone calls, or community question/answer. An A++ tax aid.
What's great about it: Inductive approach extremely useful. Allows for repeated reviews. Provides great help.
What's not so great: Several ambiguities about estimated taxes. Lacks clarity about payment methods early enough.

I always use Turbo tax because it holds my hand through doing something I hate-paying taxes. It explains everything step in a way an idiot like myself can understand. I will continue to use Turbo tax the rest of my life.
What's great about it: It is easy for someone like me-an idiot

contradictory instructions

At the beginning of an amended return we are told we have to file by mail. When you get to the filing section they keep trying to get you to e-file, but it won't let you if you try. All the printed paperwork says to send the payment in after the IRS has accepted the return when you have filed electronically. Also we are not to send the payment in with the 1040 amended return. Could you please fix this or make it more clear?
What's not so great: filing an amended return wants me to e-file.

Works well.
Is pretty smooth in general.
I recommend to others.
Like that I can go to the forms or to help.
Really like the summary and the past year comparison.
What's great about it: Always a pleasure
What's not so great: Seemed more awkward these year then in the past. Like extra key strokes to move through sections.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Filed! Done! Yay!

Turbo Tax has simplified the amount of self education that I have to do every year in order to complete tax forms by their q&a format. I like how you can retrieve all the worksheets at the end of the process and review what had been done.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax has made filling out tax forms a breeze - the Q&A format really seems to cover all the bases effectively.
What's not so great: no free e-file service for the state form

Filing donations to goodwill saved my butt
on April 13, 2014

Loved how it made itemizing my donations to goodwill a breeze. Saved me a lot of time and money to Uncle Sam. Still, Turbotax is full of fees. Thought paying $50 at the store for the program was enough, but you have to pay to file your state return and to deduct fees from your return. Cut the fees. You guys make enough money as it is. Thanks.
What's great about it: itemizes your donations and saves time
What's not so great: fees... and more fees
