on April 12, 2014

First year of transfer to retirement. All was easier than I thought. Have used Turbo Tax for my mom and myself since 2007. Good product and service. Thanks LMP
What's great about it: Handled the transfer from salary to retirement was smooth.
What's not so great: Cannot see how you could make this simpler.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TurboTax is Tops!
on April 12, 2014

TurboTax is simple and easy to use. The steps are spelled out exactly as necessary for accuracy and efficiency. There is an excellent sense of security since the program checks and re-checks the information supplied. Although only moderately computer literate, TurboTax explains all the details in language everyone can understand. Excellent program!
What's great about it: Explained what needed to be done and where to find the info
What's not so great: Had difficulty submitting the finished return even though the updates were downloaded
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

owed a little but TurboTax saved me a lot!

The questions were clear and it was easy to follow along and provide the information requested. My suggestion is to have all the forms that various agencies send you (or encourage you to go online and print) before preparing your return.
What's great about it: very comprehensive
What's not so great: sometimes a challenge to get to the bottom of the form to press continue (maybe my MacBook Air?)

Final

I had hoped the processing of multiple city returns would have been corrected for this filing season so that I would not have to re-prepare the city returns using the cities' websites.
I was also disappointed that the cost of e-filing state returns jumped by $5 midseason, which I wasn't aware of until helping my son with his return.
What's great about it: Ease of processing federal and state returns and accuracy check
What's not so great: Processing of city returns when multiple cities are requried

Mississippi Mess
on April 12, 2014

Not sure whether it was you guys or State of MS, but the 1099-DIV's caught me by surprise. Why was the info not already present on the State forms, since it was on the Federal return? Also there was an extra 1099-DIV demanding my attention. I could not proceed until I faked info, since I had no real data to add. This was new to me. All prior year MS returns have worked well.
What's great about it: Federal worked well
What's not so great: State got messy

Product Quality Much Worse This Year
on April 12, 2014

I was very dissapointed this year. It did not want to load. Then it could not find my taxes from 2012 to import the information into my 2013 return. Turbotax 2012 is still loaded on my computer. The 2012 tax return was on the computer. But Turbotax 2013 could not find it. I searched the computer and found the 2012 return. I put in first one folder then another. And finally Turbotax 2013 recognized it. I was quite shocked by this. I have used Turbotax for many years and never had any problems. So either Turbotax 2012 did not save my taxes in a way that Turbotax 2103 could find them or Turbotax 2013 has a deficiency. And it did nothing to help me look for the 2012 return. So it was very frustrating. And I have tried 5 nicknames so far, all taken. Why put people through this agony. Just use my real name.
What's great about it: I have confidence in the results
What's not so great: It did not want to load. Could not find 2012 tax forms to import information
