Beats paying an accountant

I have been using Turbo Tax Deluxe for many years now and find it to be a wonderful product. Being able to import tax data from my two brokerage accounts is a real time saver ... plus the accuracy is perfect. The tool is very thorough and asks all the right questions. The links to get help or more detailed info are terrific ... and seem to get better every year.
I highly recommend the product to my friends and family ... however, they all seem to use accountants, perhaps because three of them run their own businesses which makes life more complicated than it is for this retiree.
What's great about it: Easy to follow steps; love carry forward of prior year info.
What's not so great: Sometimes I have trouble with an oddball form (minor); cost.

My brother-in-law has been telling me to switch from H&R Block to TurboTax for years. Now, that I have, I wish I had done it years ago. I find it easier to use. The free Federal E-File is what finally reeled me in.
What's great about it: Easy to use, easy to understand

Made it simple

Used turbo tax deluxe for many years and stopped when told that you could not use it for a small business. After using a service for a year found all the needed forms on the program for this year. Would be nice to transfer data from past turbos tax forms and not just previous year.
What's great about it: Deluxe can be used for small business
What's not so great: Hard to make small changes without going through the entire Q and A

Makes my life easier!

Wish I didn't have to itemize all the info only to find out that I wasted my time inputting info! I knew it was chancy to think we could itemize. What was the standard deduction amount before I started it all! I could've done an easy guess-timate!
What's great about it: Ease of getting all the refund I can
What's not so great: Standard or Itemize deductions

What's not so great: Could use a few more help/explanation screens for the health insurance with an HSA

Do it yourself

It felt great to again control and o my own taxes. It givs us a better picture of our financial picture.

Ok, needs lots of work

I'm a military member and this program needs lots of support for forms like 1099 MISC. Previous versions had this support down, now lacks all of it. If you're military member, go purchase another program or get your tax return done somewhere else. Paying for Deluxe version is not going to help you any better than the free version.
