black box

I didn't understand how my answers on the HSA changed the amount of tax I owed by such a large amount. I also didn't get taken through the entire HSA question series correctly when I entered the information from the form.
What's great about it: no reentering info from last time, no worry about filling in multiple lines with same info or following the algorithms
What's not so great: can get to be too "black box", sometimes program isn't capable of dealing with unique situtations

I think it might be helpful to be able to bookmark a screen I wish to return to later. This would save having to search for it at that later time or having to wirte down notes of exactly what the item is and where I can find it.

Would be better if TurboTax allowed you to use the 2013 software to complete a Trial 2014 form as the year progresses and then import that form into the 2014 TurboTax. Would save a lot of rekeyboarding.
What's great about it: Easy to complete forms, with helpful Help file
What's not so great: Can't sort contributions list -- really annoying when you want to review your list
Pros: I bought or sold investments

The good news is that the software prompts you through a lot of things and some like AMT are mystical to me. However through the years it should remember more answers to walk you through the sections quickly. I think that the IRA is a good example. Did you make a contribution for 2013, yes, how much? I think that there must be 5 questions in that section.
However I like your product.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and the software does a great job of finding details and doing AMT.
What's not so great: It asks a lot of questions which could get streamlined as the years go by. Faster to manually enter some forms. do

turbotax 2013

It seems that this program has gotten worse over time, and doesn't always navigate to the right section. Also, the explanations are not very good when you click on them. When you print, the program gives an error that the pdf is not loaded but the pdf works fine for everything else; only this program seems to have a problem.
What's great about it: can use on own
What's not so great: program doesn't seem to always ask the right questions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
