Knowing the Future

Excellent program to see where one may end up concerning taxes due or possible refund. I did the tax dry run in January and doing the dry run helped me planned for April filing and provided a comfort lag (Jan - Apr) of time to let my family know our financial standing due to the fact I am unemployed for almost a year. Yes, an excellent program.
What's great about it: Preliminary Dry Run in January to see my possible payments
What's not so great: Kinda wordy
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Needs to handle married filing separately better

We've used TurboTax for years now as married filing jointly with no issue. This time we tried to see what we'd owe if we filed as married filing separately. First thing that went bad was that even though TurboTax actually told *us* the rules on how to count community property and income in our state, it couldn't do anything to figure this out for us so I had to manually figure out the adjustments to income.
Then it got worse when we decide to go back to filing jointly. It took the manual adjustments I had made in the filing separately return and kept them as an addition to our total income in our joint return. I couldn't delete except by going into the "filing separately" file. What a fiasco. It took a lot of trial and error to straighten out that mess.
What's great about it: Easy to use if you have simple return
What's not so great: It can't figure out how to allocate community property even though it knows the rules

File Taxes Easy

I see why TT is so popular, it makes quick and easy work of the chore of filing your taxes. I had to search their online help to find out how to file a less common form, I wasn't sure I could, the program recommended using a tax professional instead of filing the form myself. Otherwise very pleased.
What's great about it: Takes out the guess work
What's not so great: Hard to find less common forms

very thorough

all in all turbo tax is very thorough and allows me to file my taxes with the knowledge that i have filed my expenses per the irs guidelines
What's great about it: retired this year and had social security benefits plus retirement payments turbo tax explained each change
What's not so great: got a little confused on the "qualified" v "non qualified" explanation of retirement payments
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
