Easy to use

Quickest return filing ever!

Completed my review in record time.
Loved the linking and downloading of my Schwab account - wasn't looking forward to trying to figure out my dividend earnings given it was through a foreign country company.
What's great about it: Very easy to use
What's not so great: Was assessed a penalty for "under payment" but this wasn't expressedly called out and I only noticed it when comp last

Strengthen a Good Product With More Print Options

Develop a script for the printing process using the interview approach. What do you want to print? Do you want just the forms that will be send to the IRS or the State, with no worksheets included? Do you want the Estimated Tax vouchers to be included or not included? Will you be printing on both sides of the paper so that the obverse side of some pages must be skipped? Five or six of such questions should be enough to nail the script and save a lot of paper and ink.
Also give a little more attention to amended returns. I just filled one out, and some of the things that work well for the regular returns don't work as well for the amendment process. And when you are carrying data from one year to the next, make sure you look for amended data for the previous year.
What's great about it: Ability to move back and forth between "step-by-step" and "I'll Do It Myself' options is an excellent feature.
What's not so great: Getting exactly what one wants from a printing "episode" has always been a challenge.

turbo tax collected the fee to efile my state return but when I tried to transmit the state return I was advised that it could not be efiled due to a special schedule.

Follow the questions and get the results. I especially like how information carries over from year to year - time saver. Plug in the numbers and get the results.
I had some confusion on some allowable deductions but your documented references gave me the answers. Just took a while to find it all. Otherwise, great.
What's great about it: relatively simple
What's not so great: It would be nice to have access to chat help with an expert without paying more.

Smooth Filing with only Slight Chop

Taxes went as smoothly as possible this year with a small problem. The federal returns went very well as usual. All the data went in and out came my returns. My problem surfaced when filing returns for the state of Kansas. I have to file non-resident returns for the state of Kansas. In Turbo Tax, I input all the appropriate information and Turbo Tax calculated everything correctly but it did not print Parts B and C of Schedule S. I had to download all of the Kansas state forms and complete them by hand, which was not much fun. Aside from this problem, all went well.
What's great about it: Fast, quick and as painless as possible
What's not so great: Kansas state returns not printing properly
