TurboTax experience was very good

It gets all of the downloadable information from banks and financial institutions perfectly, but I still struggle with LLP forms known as K-1s. It should be easier and not require manual data entry once imported into TurboTax.
What's great about it: Very intuitive - it explores all tax savings avenues by category
What's not so great: Still needs some improvements on the K-1 forms

Met our needs in an atypical year.

This was a more complicated tax year for us than ever before. I was laid off at the quarter-year mark, we began drawing from our 401(K) IRA account, we incurred extensive legal fees in challenging my employer's presumption that they had not discriminated in letting me go, we continued contributing to our college savings account, we began paying college tuition, and we incurred significant out-of-pocket uninsured medical expenses. And we pre-paid estimated income taxes to the Feds and State to avoid a potential penalty. TurboTax walked us through it all the way capturing every tax law jot and jiggle, in addition to the usual detailed personal deductions related to charitable giving. We've sometimes wondered if TurboTax was overkill back when our tax situation seemed more simple. But over the years we've become familiar with TurboTax and confident in its approach. Gone are the days sitting at the desk with calculator, pencil, and typewriter self-preparing. TurboTax is at the top of my "useful apps" list.
What's great about it: Covered all the bases.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Gets it done, simple as that.

Have been using TurboTax for many years and it hasn't failed me yet. This year it printed a five year history of income, deductions, taxes, etc. Educational. Some friends use free tax programs, but I like having an "old friend" keeping track of my information, auto-entering a great deal of previous year's info, reminding me of options, giving me tips, etc.
What's great about it: super detailed - yet still pretty simple - never been flagged
What's not so great: Wish it could read my mind. Did catch my entry error of a figure by flagging an error in withholding%. Yay!

Need to make State sales tax option in SD more automatic first time I ran the program it did not show up on Sch A. I had to go search for it.
Otherwise very good.
What is the purpose of a 1099 Q? We had money taken out of 529 and sent to the school and also sent to us then we wrote check to the kids for food and rent. What gives?
