Losing its edge

I've used TurboTax for years and I love it. It's easy to use and I feel that I can file returns without mistakes.
However, this year, there were a number of issues with the software and it took much longer to prepare my returns. In the end, the return were good.
Bugs: when I quit the program and came back, the function to return to where I was did not work consistently. Additionally, there was very limited information available to fix errors.
Also, the navigation was not easy. It would be preferable to navigate from screen to screen to complete a category (i.e. Deductions) instead of coming back to the category and selecting the next item OR the category page should be indicate which items have been completed.
I will likely give TurboTax another chance next year but the ease of use has been compromised.

Couldn't file without it

I have used TurboTax for many years and it has worked very well. I couldn't file without it. I recommend it to friends and relatives. That said, there are parts of TurboTax where the messages are baffling. For example, parts of the foreign tax credit where you are asked to explain your calculation. What? TurboTax is doing the calculation. Then, sometimes old forms are carried over but are not longer needed. These trigger error messages at the end. There is not an intuitive means to delete them.
What's great about it: Comprehensive; reasonably easy to use
What's not so great: Some parts are very confusing

I don't understand why Social Security Benefits are included in Net Investment Income calculation for additional 3.8% investment income tax when Social Security Benefits are not investment income.

State retrun is fair at best

Fix the state return. Not good at all. Hard to navigate.
What's not so great: State retrun needs lots of help. Not very easy or complete. Always an issue.

First time user!

It was my first time using Turbo Tax. It was recommended by two of our friends. It is easy to use. It's step by step instructions.I will consider using this again year after year.

Questionable steps

When entering our IRA contributions, the window/prompt questions were not consistent. I wanted to see how my return was going to be affected based on an entry of $4200, $5500 or $6500. I don't feel confident that this was done correctly as I was taken thru a different series of questions on two different days . . .
I don't feel confident our education deduction was done correctly either. Now, I need to get someone to help me "look" at my return.
