What's great about it: I experienced TurboTax with an increased sense of freedom than in past years. Easier to re-enter forms, make changes.

TurboTax Fell Short This Year
on April 12, 2014
Posted by: JRGOLFFAN
This year TurboTax fell short for me. The primary reason was it didn't check for form/software updates prior to starting. I get part way through to the sales tax deduction only to be told by the software that part isn't completed yet but should be done by 12/31/2013......today was 12 April 2014! In past years it always checked for updates before starting. It makes no sense to take me through the filing process if I'm going to have to update section(s) at the very end when the updates were already available. Other than that it was a great product. Please fix this for next year!
What's great about it: Easy to use with step-by-step procedures
What's not so great: Unlike previous years it didn't check for form updates prior to starting the return

Everythg is there just ask in HELP.

The step by step is great. I'd be spending a fortune to have a tax preparer do it, and they just don't ask all the right questions about my different situations.
What's great about it: Could do it all myself, with a little help finding things through HELP.
What's not so great: Had trouble finding where to put my job search expenses.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I won't use anything else!

I like it. The help sections are written for people who ARE NOT tax professionals. I feel confident that my returns are prepared correctly. In the years I have used Turbo Tax I have never not been advised of a update or change that takes effect during tax season. I also use Quicken, and together they really help me.
What's great about it: Precise, concise, plenty of help, and a fair price
What's not so great: having to roll down after each section is finished-a minor complaint

Joys and Frustrations

Would like to see a split screen of the interview process with the forms being filled out.
Would like to have a way to scroll through the list of interview questions in a section, so you don't have to go through so many screens before getting to the specific area you want to work on.
They should provide a way to just enter your business mileage without having to enter all the vehicle info, if all you want is the standard deduction for mileage and are not going to depreciate your vehicle when your business usage is so little. This gets very complicated the way it is currently set up. They should let you know that you can leave these questions blank if you don't want to depreciate the vehicle.
When asking all the questions about the vehicle, they don't assume that you may have sold a vehicle to a private party, and bought a used vehicle from a private party. They use the word "trade-in" and "New". Is that a new vehicle, or just new to you?
If you have two Schedule C's, they should recognize if you have already entered vehicle info for the other business, so you don't have to enter it a second time.
When filing multiple 1099 R's, it should remember the address so you don't have to retype it.
What's great about it: Transferring info from previous year and importing data from other sources. Appreciate interview, + work on own.
What's not so great: Hard to navigate at times; sometimes too detailed

Not quite perfect

1. Screen font size is not adjustable. I would like to zoom in.
2. Doing split federal e-file and state mail - Turbo Tax did not auto goto printing the state return. I had to manually start the file section again to print the state.

I have been very satisfied using Turbo Tax. Even though, I take couple of days to complete it, I enjoy doing it slowly and doing it right.
Thank you for making it simple.
Filing Taxes is not an easy task, but using Turbo Tax has made it simpler.
What's great about it: Very satisfied using Turbo Tax
