Easier

We have used TurboTax for a number of years - both Deluxe and Premier. Inputting data is simple and the calculations are done by TurboTax. Couldn't be simpler.
What's great about it: Step-by-Step; calculations; easy access to forms; entry of prior year data; its deductible.

Works well

I had errors on some forms but had no idea what those particular entries required and there was no help option available for me. I realize the tax code is ridiculously complicated, but even a vague help screen would have been better than nothing.
What's great about it: It covers everything
What's not so great: Most of it is not explained well
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

For Mac users you get an e-file that cannot be done - need updates - you do updates and still does not work. Instead of the message bringing you to solutions you need to search for them. Solution is tedious - for as many MAC users in today's world this should be fixed or stop selling product as an e-file product.
What's not so great: EFILE is horrible

Turbo Tax is the very best. It calculates things, remembers things, and fixes itself when it screws up (as all software does). It's the only thing I will use.

Great Product!

I have been using TurboTax to do my taxes for many years. It is easy to use, even in years when taxes are complex; moving to a new state, selling/buying a house, etc. The cost is reasonable, I just wish that it included the cost of filing the state return so that you don't have to pay at the end.
What's great about it: Easy to use!
What's not so great: Wish the package included filing fee for state taxes

Turbo Tax not very good

My daughter received a 1099-Misc from her college for an internship. I had to research how to handle this, the turbotax was useless. Also, I have been using turbotax since 1995. Why does it ask me if I took college deductions in the past? Every year when I import last year's tax return the software, if properly developed, should tell me whether I have used all college deductions or not, I should not have to dig out 5 years of old turbotax returns and look myself. Also, after I imported my 2012 return to start my 2013 return I was no longer able to access my 2012 return. After 18 years with turbotax I have lost confidence in them.
What's great about it: cheaper than a tax professional
What's not so great: Treatment of Form 1099 not good, software asks me if I took a deduction in the past, software should be telling me.
