turbo tax review

Overall very good. I didn't get to the sales tax deduction via the prompts. Had to enter manually. Also, the 1099-B forms were difficult to fill out as a result of the forms not being clear about the box markings. I think this may be more of an inconsistency issue with the various issuing agencies. Very happy with the results.
What's great about it: ease of use, good input prompts
What's not so great: didn't get to sales tax deduction on schedule A,
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2013 TT Review
on April 11, 2014

The import technique is unwieldy and second and third efforts to import compound the problem, or better yet, permit the user to place his/her own tage on the downloaded file.
there has to be a better way to identify the desired imported file. And take out loops in by the hand work.
What's great about it: By the hand and direct entryavailable at any time continually
What's not so great: By the hand entry has too many loops

Tough Year

Had to go to worksheet--forms view to force a change. Would not take a change using step by step method. This is first time I have had problems with your program in 15 years! And, it caused a ton of extra hours of headache..
What's not so great: poor calculations from worksheet

Bad & Good STuff

1. My 1040 was missing the first page of a Form 4562 when reviewing. I decided not to efile due to this error which occurred last years as well. You have additional reports but no action taken even commenting on the problems.
2. Wasted 2 days attempting to figure out why nothing was imported from Quicken. Finally from searching the web (no help from TTax) someone mentioned that you did it by selecting Quicken 2014,2013 or 2012 from the File menu. My TTax didn't have that selection as I was using Quicken 2011. My search in TTax help said TTax no longer imported from Quicken.. Thankfully someone outside of TTax had the answer. I had to buy Quicken 2014 to use TTax 2014. Intuit now has a guaranteed purchase of Quicken every 3 years regardless of whether the customer wants or needs it.
4. If you skip vehicle input for sch C or E you have to weed through all those sections to finally get to the vehicles again or manually enter a 4562. Love to have you allow direct access to the section of vehicles in both sch C and E work.
5. Reviewing worksheets that although the final values were correct in the 1040 the worksheets didn't have complete calculations shown as in the standard deduction worksheet. It took a while to figure out why the 1040 showed a value greater than what was supposed to be the standard deduction-because of age.
6. The Good is that it does work, saves time, allows direct printing of tax forms including saving them all in pdf files for future reference. Too bad it doesn't print all the required forms such as the complete 4562 or I'd use efile.
What's great about it: Reduces time to file
What's not so great: Missing pages prevent choice of e files (i.e.page 1 of Form 4562)

Easy and Accurate
on April 11, 2014

Easy to follow, accurate, throrough, saves time as opposed to doing by hand or even having a third party do it as you still have to collect all the data. 20% of thrid parties make errors in your tax return. You can do the whole question survey or select only the sections you need, it has lots of details and help if you do not understand something. It has a running total of the refund or taxes you owe that is adjusted as you input data.
What's great about it: Easy to follow, accurate, throrough, saves time
What's not so great: None
Pros: I bought or sold investments

As easy as it gets.

TT is about as easy as it gets to file complicated federal tax returns. It's what makes it possible for me to do my own returns. Otherwise, I'd have to use a Preparer at much higher costs.
What's great about it: the step by step process
What's not so great: What's not to like?
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have used this program for several years to include completing my Son's taxes which include foreign income exclusion. This year I ran into a snag. I called the customer support for TurboTax and the representative was so very helpful and patient with me.

Worked Great - Again
on April 11, 2014
Posted by: rsporter50
I have been using Turbo Tax for many years. This year was more complex than most, involving three states, and multiple forms of income. Minor glitches were in the State forms, and one in the Schedule A Business Expense area. Found workarounds for the Schedule A, but one of the State forms (PA) had a frustrating issue until I went into the forms and corrected things.
Overall, though, it all went well, as usual, and I will remain a regular user.
What's great about it: Step By Step Guide makes sure I get everything
What's not so great: Some minor software glitches I had to work around
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
