Does well for straight forward taxes.
What's great about it: Questions walked me through easily.
What's not so great: Display error even after several years on tax exempt dividends.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Final Filing Needs More Work
on April 11, 2014

I e-file my Federal return and mail my State (VA) return. I guess I'm just cheap, because I prefer to spend the outrageous fee to the USPS to deliver a 2-page return just down the road, rather than paying the e-filing fee. I believe most Virginians would do the same. Anyway the preparation for filing, like always, was easy, logical, and almost foolproof. However when I chose to e-file the Federal and do the Virginia "later", TurboTax proceeded in an orderly fashion to file, print copies for me, and then ask for this review. Whoa! The software should be smart enough to know that I needed to go back and finish the state return. I did that manually, so no harm, no foul. But I'm afraid that other might think they were done without filing the state return.
What's great about it: Easy import, logical interview flow, easy to stop and start up again
What's not so great: E-filing Federal and mailing State flow still confusing.

I got double entries when I downloaded my Quicken files and my investment forms from my brokerage. I couldn't download my BECU Credit Union accounts. Don't like not seeing where the answered questions are entered on the forms .
What's great about it: imports personal data and previous years data
What's not so great: download double entry and credit union wasn't included in your list

Have nothing to comment at this time. Will always use TurboTax.
What's great about it: Step-by-process and also explanations of each step
What's not so great: Cost of E-filing is getting expensive when your a low income person. Having to pay an costly refund processing serv. fee

Smooth navigation through sticky wickets

I was impressed again at how smoothly the preparation of our taxes was. Ours was not a complicated return, but there were several things I was not sure about. With audit defense, I am now confident that the return was prepared correctly.
What's great about it: Steps through all categories seamlessly
What's not so great: Can't think of any

Struggled with the print option
on April 11, 2014
Posted by: gkedsw12
TT needs to figure out how to make the review, save, print functions more transparent and easily discerned regardless of whether the user is e-filing or mailing the returns. The process is too strung out and is not the least bit intuitive. Year after year it's convoluted and frustrating.
What's great about it: Automatically filled in ADP W-2 data
What's not so great: Figuring out how to just print out the tax forms for mailing was too cumbersome and buried in too much other verbiage.
