One small complaint
on April 10, 2014
Posted by: DavidFriedman
My only real complaint is that it asks you if you want to print a copy for your files, which I did. What it prints includes the federal return, the state return, and a second copy of the federal return. That makes sense for filing, since your state return has to be accompanied by the federal return, but makes no sense for your records.
What's great about it: Followed the easystep this time, worked smoothly
What's not so great: Prints too much for my files

Loving my refund!

I dread doing my taxes b/c of all the paperwork I have to dig out to itemize. Turbotax prompts me for every possible deduction, so I know I'm not missing anything. It's simple with Turbotax, although it still is time consuming when you itemize. Probably no more time consuming than gathering all of my deductions for a CPA.! A bonus is that it doesn't cost me a thing to efile!
What's great about it: You can't miss a deduction. It prompts you for everything.
What's not so great: Annoyed that it kept asking me if I wanted to do a state return and our state is not required to file one

Not as easy as it used to be!

I have used TT for many years and this is by far the worst rendition. For joint filing it starts out by asking "Which party should start" and then never gives you prompt or at least a RECOGNIZABLE prompt for the other half of the filing jointly to put in their information. Looking through the FAQ's this was a problem for many. I think you need to do better beta testing on your program as long as you keep changing the format.
You don't label the pages clearly for mail-in tax forms.
What's great about it: Fast
What's not so great: It funnels you to use e file. even if you owe taxes.

Turbo Tax
on April 10, 2014

I like being able to use a computer to file my returns. They are better than my old handwritten forms. It would be nice if TurboTax would arrange items for me, for exampl, listing my previous charitable contributions in alphabetic order, like wise for the various mutual funds and banks. Also there should be some sort of "smart" review, like prodding the taxpayer about possible missed items like state estimated taxes paid. I would also like to specify exactly what I wan to print rather than waste a lote of paper (Yes, I know I can do this with PDF).
What's great about it: Legible copies of returns, arithmetic done for me
What's not so great: Not always easy to understand, never sure I've not missed something

Love the Refund/ Owe Calculator
on April 10, 2014

I really like the refund/ owe calculator that changes as you add information so you can see what impacts the bottom line both positively and negatively. I also like the ability to import from It's Deductible. It is very easy to list and value your non-monetary donations here.
What's great about it: I just love how you can see what made an impact on your total amount owed as you enter the information.
What's not so great: None that I can think of.

I prefer using Turbo Tax because it has the most complete and detailed directions to use it. The information has saved me time and embarrassment several times over the last few years.
What's great about it: I enjoy the ease of using the program and the helpful questions that it asks.
