TurboTax makes it (relatively) painless

I like the way it shows a running comparison to the previous year. This is great if you have the same income/deduction sources from year to year. Even if something changes, it's then easy to see the impact compared to prior years. Helps to avoid missing a critical income or deduction item.
What's great about it: Step-through makes it easy to enter all the appropriate info
What's not so great: Descriptions of options sometimes a little weak.

Pros and Cons of Turbotax 2013

Received excellent support from your call support center when we had a few questions. She (Barbara) showed a lot of patience to explain how the numbers were derived.
What's great about it: Excellent Customer Support line - keep it up!
What's not so great: Ceratin numbers derived are not easy to understand - may be should have an option to show the calculations

Frustrated

The quality of Turbo Tax seems significantly lower this year. It was confusing this year. The directions were not clear, I got asked questions that didn't make sense and it was difficult to locate the form that the questions were referring to. Also, it didn't prompt me with questions about differences in information between what was entered for 2012 and 2013. For example, it didn't prompt me to enter information about contributions to a 529 even though I had put that information in last year.
What's great about it: Liked ability to compare this year to last year
What's not so great: Confusing, not able to pull my W-2 info in, asked for information about a dependent that didn't exist (it was an error),

Education Credits Ease the Pain

College education credits were easy to calculate with Turbo Tax. As the parent of a college Freshman I was anxious about getting the maximum education credit allowed. Turbo Tax pointed out the the pros and cons of taking deductions vs tax credits and directed me to the higher credit based on my individual circumstances. This was stress free and gives me confidence as I go back and complete the FAFSA form with information from my completed tax return.
What's great about it: College tuition credits easily calculated

Easy - Even for Self-employed

It is so expensive paying someone else to do my taxes. And even though I am self-employed with lots of itemizations, I still am able to do it all with Turbotax. For me, it is a tremendous money saving route.
What's great about it: I don't understand taxes - but turbotax walks me through and explains things well
What's not so great: Taxes are still a pain - not Turbotax's fault though

Three hours, including time for updates. Have used Turbo Tax for over 10 years and they just keep getting it easier.
What's great about it: Every year, easier. This year was the best yet
What's not so great: Having to go into all the different tax credit areas

Can always count on TurboTax to provide easy to follow, step by step instructions that I use every year as I file during the final week before the filing deadline. I always get it done on time.
