Poorly Done

I have used the other major tax software in the past but I wasn't satisfied with it because of software problems I noted. I found similar issue with Turbo Tax. It always seemed a little off of user friendly. When it came time to print it didn't print unless I manually went in a directed the printed of mailing documents. I think it has the potential of being the best but right now its about equal to H&R Blocks. WT
What's not so great: Seemed Awkard and was not completely intuitive
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Surviving Rejection of a Federal Income Tax Return
on April 10, 2014

I have used TurboTax to file my federal and state income tax returns for the past six years, and I especially appreciate the process of answering questions regarding my income tax situation which are posed by TurboTax from start to finish.
My 2013 federal income tax return was rejected because I inaccurately typed the Form 1099-R, Payer Federal Id Number on the return. It was a simple matter of following instructions provided by TurboTax to replace the incorrect number with the accurate number. Even better, I was able to re-file the corrected tax return without being charged an e-file fee.
What's great about it: I particularly liked the instructions provided by TurboTax for correcting and re-filing the rejected tax return.
What's not so great: I did not experience anything I didn't like while using TurboTax.

I am a TurboTax user of more than 10 years.
Two issues: 1. I had mistakenly entered data on the wrong form (Schedule F instead of rent and royalties) which resulted in a double-entry of income. I could not remove the erroneous entry by re-doing the form. I had to go to the form and directly edit the entry.
2. For State Taxes (IA) there was no way to enter sales tax due on out-of-state purchases. I was told to mail a payment to the Iowa Dept. of Revenue. I know that in the past, this has been included in the Turbo Tax process. Why the change to make it more cumbersome?
What's great about it: Thorough questions
What's not so great: difficult to remove erroneous entries
Pros: I bought or sold investments

My refund

I am very disappointed in Turbo Tax this year. I have been using it for 10 years or more and this year I had to enter most of my data instead of Turbo Tax bringing it over from 2012. I also had to change my address multiple times. Once I put in my change of address Turbo Tax should have been intuitive enough to realize it was changed. I had to enter every one of my income source amount although 2 of them are exactly the same year after year. Last year's return was much easier. This year's was very redundant as far as I am concerned. I may have to rethink about using Turbo Tax again. If I have to enter everything myself I can use the free federal and state website.
What's great about it: I could do it myself
What's not so great: I had to give too much info that Turbo Tax should have already had.
Pros: I moved

My foreign accounts are causing me to look for other tax software as you don't handle the FBAR filing. Also the 8938 is hard to use and have to back into how to fill out foreign interest, expenses and taxes paid. a real headache
What's great about it: online charity deduction, forms for k-1s
What's not so great: Terrible on foreign taxes and doesn't do the electronic FBAR filing

Hate doing my taxes, but TurboTax makes it at least manageable for me every year. Having everything (all forms, etc.) available makes the doing my taxes very efficient. I especially like the "what does this mean" links whenever I have questions. They are very helpful.
2 concerns: 1. I prepared 2 tax returns this yr. 1 requiring an IL state form & 1 requiring a MI state form. When I did the return with MI forms, the pgm still referenced the IL forms and did not give a clear way to eliminate it. 2. After finishing my taxes, there were "Print Tax Returns" buttons in >1 place & it was not clear to me if these were different forms than I had already printed.
What's great about it: Question/interview format with "what does this mean" links ar very easy to use.
What's not so great: State tax not "deletable" if not using for this preparer. Some unclear "print returns" @ end of TT pgm.

Makes an ugly job easy

I appreciate anything that makes filing taxes easier. I always find that I procrastinate and so I'm usually on the "screaming edge" when I'm doing my taxes. This tends to magnify the related anxieties. Turbo Tax sets it all up and significantly eases the pain of doing taxes.
What's great about it: It's set up well and walks you easily through the process
What's not so great: Having to pay extra for the state filing - Why?
