Good Software-With Asterisk

I have been using Turbo Tax for several years. Luckily, this year all my income was from one state and I did not have to file a multi-state return. :-)
Turbo Tax makes tax filing fairly simple - just answer the questions. This year, my criticism is certain information that should be carried over from the prior year return is not when I have used Turbo Tax the previous year. While personal information is carried over - certain tax information- such as capital gain loss carryover is not. The application suggests to look at your prior year return (and provides 1040 line#) to determine if any carryover is present.
Why can't Turbo Tax simply carry that information automatically-especially since I used the software last year AND on the same computer? Doesn't make sense.

Two improvements

1) While sending e-mail returns is free from Turbotax, the credit card companies charge 2.75%. That adds up to a lot of money and TT should point this out very clearly.
2) TT should make it possible to sort Deductions. It is time consuming to have to search each time a deduction is added or edited.

E file a mess

The IRS PIN is a 6 digit number and your program wont take for the 5. I have been messing with this for hours. Dont expect this from you guys

Didn't like all if the questions at the review, i.e. nickname and life changes. I had trouble getting to the efile page. As yet I haven't.
What's great about it: Very detailed
What's not so great: Had trouble getting to the efile page
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo Tax Easy Street

The Turbo Tax software has been used by my family for years now, and it has always been easy to accomplish for myself. I especially like the fact that I can go back into the program and make corrections if needed. I also like the fact that the federal taxes can be e-filed and it takes very little time for the entire tax event to be completed. I would definitely recommend Turbo tax over any tax service due to the convenience, cost, and experience of educating yourself on the tax process. Thanks.

My pension was reported on a 1099-R form. The software asked whether I had met minimum withdrawal requirements. This pension payment is not subject to such requirements as would an IRA. Perhaps you could address this in next years software edition.

Lingering issues

I have not liked the printing selections for about 15 years. It is too slow in getting better. If I want to print out what I need to send by mail, I get info I don't need -- such as worksheets (still#, admin info #thank you letter, summary). I want to be able to print, sign, and mail. Instead, I waste paper, waste time, and sometimes wonder if I am sending off everything correctly. Also, I had enough lines on Sched B to do all my dividends, but TurboTax didn't use them all, and instead went to "additional details", a SMARSHEET that also had interest data on it that was not needed. Vehicle property taxes was under car registration. I noticed a lot of people online questioned that. Schedule E was not filled in with property information -- I filled it in myself.
What's great about it: I only use Turbo Tax because it keeps track of data and info from year to year. But, issues have lingered long.
What's not so great: Print records. Separate necessary forms from worksheets better. Eliminate having to print a gazillion pages.
