Worked great

Over all, it worked fine.
What's great about it: Most questions were easy to answer
What's not so great: State file had questions that had to be looked up on the internet.

User-friendly software

I love using TurboTax to do my taxes because it walks you through the entire process step by step. I feel like they leave no stone unturned, so I leave feeling like I've done everything correctly. Last year I was randomly selected to be audited, but it was totally hassle free because my taxes were done correctly. (I simply got a letter telling me I was being audited and a few weeks later got a letter telling me the audit was over and everything was fine.) Also, it is really easy to import the information from last year's taxes, so it gives you a sense of security/continuity. The only issue I had with TurboTax this year was with the software updates. I was asked to update the software twice before I started filing, and when I was ready to e-file, I was told I could not do so because my software wasn't up-to-date. I updated the software again, but it still wouldn't let me e-file. Once I closed the program and reopened it, however, I was able to quickly file my taxes electronically. I'm just not sure why this happened when I bought/downloaded TurboTax today and filed my taxes immediately after. This little glitch didn't stop me from filing, though; it was just a bit of a nuisance. Overall, I love TurboTax and will use it every year.
What's great about it: Holds your hand through the process, very thorough, gives peace of mind

Some frustrations getting to a good bottom line

Even though I have complaints, it's still easier than doing taxes manually. Since I retired with IRA savings in mutual funds and also non-retirement investment income from mutual funds and stock and bank interest, my return is relatively complicated but not enough for me to go to a professional
Most serious con is the system issues. I have 2 separate user spaces on my Windows Vista machine, administrator and user. I do all my work in the user space. By default TurboTax installs with administrator permission (password required). A flaw in TurboTax doesn't allow the non-administrator to download updates unless logged on in the administrator space, but then unless update preferences are set to a particular option, the updated program can't be accessed in the user space. Intuit offered no advice in the online community in TurboTax. Various users found workarounds for Windows 7 but none for Vista. I spent 2 hours trying things blindly! I think the thing that worked was changing update preferences up front when using TurboTax logged on as administrator.
Navigation is also frustrating. The program seems designed for complete hand-holding and trust that it will do it all right. My trust wasn't blind this time when it didn't import all my Vanguard IRA distributions, just some. So I checked on Summary sheets for completely missing areas, like a deduction for state sales taxes paid. More on navigation: it seemed unnecessarily circuitous preparing my state return.

What's great about it: Handled the numbers well. Prepared state return that I'm unfamiliar with, having just moved to an income-taxing state.
What's not so great: Serious system issues. Confusing to navigate if you want to do a mix of guided and "on your "own.

Clean, Easy and comforting

I guess I am spoiled. I am a long time Turbo Tax user and have never had a problem with the install, use, or e-mail filing.
I know there are others out there, maybe even a few dollars less, but I want to get this done and move on to other things.
I am starting a business this year, so I will need to upgrade to a more involved Turbo Tax program.
I know I won't be disappointed!
What's great about it: Ease of use. Explaination if needed. E-mail, done!
What's not so great: Can't think of any thng. I have been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Expensive but gets the job done

I have used Turbo Tax for the last five years, it appears that each year more questions are asked that should be able to come over from the last filing. it could be more user friendly. especially for people that are not well versed in tax peparaton. it is extremely expensive as you have to pay for both the software and the state filing. There should be free state filing since you have already paid for the program. I would recommend this software because it has checked and rechecked, done all of the calculations and filed my refunds.
What's great about it: gets the job done
What's not so great: expense and time consuming
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

They found errors I had made.
