For example, I somehow duplicated my student dependent in the education section. I did not see it until it ran my errors but it did not show point out I duplicated only that i had missing info. Only that i was missing info. I had to go all the way back to the beginning to discover the error on my own.
To top it off, this was on a worksheet that I did not need since I did not qualify for the deduction anyway. Why can't I just delete the worksheet?
What's great about it: fairly quick and easy
What's not so great: Hard to correct errors without going all the way back to solve the problem.

my fed and va state 2013 income tax returns
on April 10, 2014

In doing the 2013 VA state tax income return, I found out that Turbo Tax could not let me know that I can maximize my deduction on my 3 prepaid VPEP accounts because the maximized deduction would give me a larger refund on state. My last year 2012 VA state income tax filing, I did not know that entitlement, I just deducted $2000.o00 for each of my prepaid VPEP account, while this year some thing, not from Turbo Tax, got me to call Dept of Tax of VA and I found that that I am entitled to file deduction of $12,000.00 for the 3 prepaid VPEP which got me a large VA state refund for 2013.
What's great about it: very thorough
What's not so great: deduction of prepaid VPEP

Had a difficult return this year with capital gains from inherited home sale. Turbo Tax helped me avoid hiring a CPA.
What's great about it: Worked very well when stopping for a long while and coming back to continue.

Adapt TurboTax for Returns of Deceased
on April 10, 2014
Posted by: DIYTaxman1343
I filled out my mother's final tax return. [Apparently, 'death AND taxes' is quite literal.] TurboTax did ask for and account for this situation, but I found myself having to reinterpret questions which were directed in the second person #you# and answer a lot of questions which would have been irrelevant for anyone dead.
Fortunately, I've done a lot of my grieving already, but this would have been very vexing and aggravating for someone still struggling. Other small things were omitted, like, where do I sign the returns...as the preparer? in the self-prepared section?
Its a special case, I realize, but one that will eventually catch up to us all. On a slow day, perhaps you can spare a programmer to walk through the process in my shoes. Thanks.
What's great about it: Responsible and Accurate
What's not so great: Had to Reinterpret Statements
