Year after year, makes it as easy as possible

I haven't use any other prep software in many years so I can't compare. With TT, I know what I'm doing. I can do the sequential input when entering & go immediately (i.e., quickly) to forms to see what I've really done. I don't use the features for downloading from banks/brokers, so I rely on data input procedures that are as straightforward as possible and TT gives me that. Forms appear to be just what the IRS and state expect to see. Only complaint is that there remain a few small obscure worksheets where the data entry is not explained and the source is too general to easily figure out what's going on.
What's great about it: Correct, accurate, mostly easy to use, predictable (year to year)
What's not so great: Still too much upselling, some worksheets need more explanation

Great To A Point

I have used Turbo Tax for several years and been very happy with it. This year I decided to try e-filing the federal return. That's where I had all the problems. I was able to get an electronic filing pin for my husband, but not for me. I entered my information about 4 times and I know it was correct, but I got notice that it was not the information that they had. Then I tried using the adjusted gross income method, which came to a place where I was told to make up my own electronic pin number, which I thought was odd. Well, when I pressed the button to e-file, it said that I needed another update on the federal form. At that point, I decided to go back to mailing the taxes in as I always done. I'm disappointed because I was trying something that I know a lot of people do with no problem and I had problems. I would think Turbo Tax would have me do all the changes so that I wouldn't get that message at the end. I'm sure that the problem lies with the Electronic Pin # part. I tried calling the IRS, but it was going to be a 15-30 minute wait to talk to someone. I'm thinking this will happen every year because my information that was not accepted by the IRS is not going to change. Is there a way Turbo Tax could help me wit this problem?
What's great about it: It is easy to follow. It gives good directions and you know what papers you need. I can do most of the taxes in one sitti
What's not so great: My trouble was with the e-filing. This is my first time. I could not get an electronic filing pin. II could not efile it
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Challenge to file electronically
on April 9, 2014

A very good program for doing your taxes. It is very easy to use. Updates keep coming to keep you current. Unfortunately, even after you have filed your return. The program does not tell you whether you need to file an amended return if the program updates after you have filed. It does tell you just what did update so you can decide if you need to file an amended return. The program hung up on me when I was ready to file electronically. It worked flawlessly the next day. Tax refund was available quickly once the return was filed.
What's great about it: Quick and easy to use
What's not so great: You still have to have your paperwork

better then H&R Block software

I started using Turbo Tax when it was first available. A couple of years ago I changed to another software because it was cheaper. This was a bad experience because not as user friendly or detailed as Turbo Tax. I am now back with Turbo Tax and very happy and price difference really is not that much more for the quality.
What's great about it: Very user friendly
What's not so great: None

Does what it is marketed to do but does not replace the advise of tax attorneys and accountants. For simplified, non-complex filing it does the job
What's great about it: ease of use, intuitive
What's not so great: Takes getting used to
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
